The replies to this secret make me sad. Yes, let's. Obsessively hate a country for something that happened 70 fucking years ago that most people who live in that country weren't even alive for. Even though plenty of other countries have been just as shitty throughout history. Uh huh. That's perfectly fair and understandable.

I'm fucking sick of Nazi villains, too. I'm sick of how we never see good Germans. I get really excited when we do. Django Unchained was my favorite thing ever since. You know. The one white character that wasn't a racist fuckhead was a German guy. But movies like that are the exception to the rule and that's so fucked up.

seriously, I don't think anybody in this thread has said anything about hating Germans over this and the point has been made over and over again that Nazis and modern Germans are not the same. that's a distinction that people understand. it's certainly not any 'obsessive hatred' of Germany jfc

yeah the Holocaust does get a lot of press and Nazis are used as villains, but, you know, they were a bunch of evil fuckers.

The thing is, people equate Germans with Nazis because of this shit and it's fucking annoying. And fiction almost always portraying any given German character as a Nazi doesn't help. If a character in a thing is German, it's usually a Nazi villain. That's. Kind of bad.

I haven't seen any comments saying that we should obsessively hate all Germans. Instead, I've seen people say that Nazis in particular are worthy of hatred (and they are), and that OP is wrong to dismiss the holocaust and to spread misinformation.

The fact that other countries have also done shitty things doesn't mean that this part of one country's history can or should just be forgotten. American slavery ended nearly 160 years ago, but media around the world still reference it because it was so fucking terrible, and everyone is pretty keen to make sure it doesn't happen again.

People are not hating on modern day Germans, they're hating on Nazis and modern day Nazi-apologists. Unless you're a Nazi-apologist, you need not be offended.
