If you don't have dysphoria you are not trans. Period. To say otherwise is transphobic, because you're turning being transgender into a choice.

Now, who else thinks that being transgender is a choice?

For fuck's sake, just because you don't physically feel like you're in the wrong body doesn't mean you're *choosing* to be trans, that doesn't even make sense. If I'm a guy, and I'm into guys, but I don't fuck them, am I *choosing* not to be gay? No.

SA

That analogy makes even less sense, sorry. Teach me to post after an all-nighter :-/

Your analogy doesn't work.
It would be more like "You're a guy and you don't like other guys but you claim you're gay because you can totally be gay without being into guys".

That is not actually part of the definition though? I mean, it's tumblr, I'm sure there are fakes... but that's not the official definition of trans.

It is, actually, having dysphoria is part of the medical definition of being transgender.

I could not choose to identify as male or female. I would not be capable of identifying as either of those things. That doesn't make me trans, and I never claimed to be such, but it doesn't make me male or female, either.

I know the term "agender." I have been educated enough to be familiar with the term. But there are probably plenty of queer people who've never heard it and don't know that it fits them. If someone's calling themself by the wrong term, you certainly have the right to be irritated, but that doesn't mean they're a fake, it just means they're confused.

There are lots of components to being trans and personal agency is one of them for many people. It isn't for everyone, but yes, for many it is. Also, dysphoria and choice can coexist, you know.
