Doctor Who fandom is INCREDIBLY elitist.

You're not a ~real fan~ unless you've watched Classic Who.

If Ten is your favorite Doctor it's obviously because he's attractive and therefore you're not a ~real fan~.

ETC ETC

I just ignore it tbh.

*grins*

You and I have come in contact with very different Who-fan samples, it seems.

lol. I spent a lot of time on GallifreyBase before it was GallifreyBase back in the day and there were a lotttt of elitist fans.

Ah, I see. I've not spent much time in the thick of any DW fansite, and so have only had contact with fringe-dwellers.

Yeah, I've heard a lot of things about Gallifrey Base that weren't exactly good including the elitism. I've more or less stuck to the LJ comms and Teaspoon (Who fanfic archive), and a lot of fans on LJ seem to be more accepting of other people's Favorite Doctors. You'll find Moffat bashing from time to time, but that seems to be par for the course these days.

That is one section of the fandom. There is also a large section of the fandom that thinks that if you don't think Ten is the best Doctor or if you happen to like Eleven, your opinions on Who are objectively wrong and while you may be a real fan you aren't a good one.

Really, the whole fandom is elitist in general. Every section of the fandom thinks their point of view is the only right one and that they are the only true/good fans.

LOL, I have been watching Dr Who since 1963. I didn't see the first ever episode, but I did see (and remember) the second ever episode, with the cavemen and the burning skulls...

And I'm intimidated by some of the Dr Who fandom!

(But, then, I also think most of their meta is bullshit).
