I thought preferring David Tennant was the majority opinion. Is that not the case? I mean, I myself personally prefer Matt Smith, but it seems like almost everywhere I go Ten is the most popular doctor.

It depends on what corner of fandom you find. Generally, yes, David Tennant is the most popular Doctor and wins all the popularity contests. But if you find yourself in a particular corner of fandom then you might feel like it's an unpopular opinion.

I was just going to ask if the tides had turned. My impression had been that most of the NuWho fandom was shitting itself over the wonderfulness of Ten.

And there you've answered your question. New Who fans? Yes, they mostly like Tennant. Fans that are also heavily into Classic Who? Not so much. The worst bunch of them really, really get angry when you call Tennant the best Doctor, despite the love he receives from the general public/casual viewers and the press.

This would be because we actually have good taste, and much preferred the higher standards of writing and characterization (and plot actually being a thing that, you know, existed, and was coherent), that are nowhere to be found in NuWho. At all. Even remotely.

Yeah I guess I proved the point of everyone above me. :-P Do I care? I don't care.

It's still no reason to start ridiculing nu!Fans as soon as they mention they like David Tennant best. Some people have shit taste then, why does that make people so angry? Why can't Classic Fandom disagree in a civilised manner?

I don't like Tennant's Doctor much either, but this attitude from (mainly) Classic fans has ruined many a formerly fun community.

Kinda disagree. At least nu!nu!Who American fans. Many think Matt is the only and best Doctor. Because the media push in America (and surge in popularity) happened then.

But yeah, as said above. In a large portion of fandom, if you don't like Eleven Era, then obvs you are the shallowest person ever because you only watch because DT is hot. I get that a lot (despite watching old and new Who). Especially from NON fans. They just assume because I fan on David Tennant and don't like Moffat-era, then I must only be in it for the hotness.

So I feel you, OP.

Yep, mine too. I still feel like I can't say that around many of my fandom friends. Though none of those are new new Who fans. Not cuz we're elitist, though! Okay, maybe a little.

It is, except for fans like the OP who like to think they are an oppressed minority when they are just like the majority...

It's the 'I am a unique snowflake' point of view which also produces so many Mary Sue fics - I think this secret is more an indication of the OP's overall teenage existential angst more than the reality of the Doctor Who current viewership. :D
