Oh god, Pokemon was my first run in with Rule 34 way back at the tail end of the 90's. Sexualizing cartoon horses of indeterminate ages is one thing, but Pokemon is a whole nother arena with human characters who have their actual ages stated (usually really underage with most of the main characters ranging between like 10 to 16), regularly depicted or written about fucking creatures of dubious mental capacity. Pokemon sentience is kind of up in the air depending on whether you're talking about the games, anime, or comics, but it's really hard to make sex with a pikachu look like anything other than bestiality.

I dunno if they ever got it to full game, but I know pokegirl cards of quite a decent level of quality got circulated at cons. There were fans with real money behind it as well as just the usual rape fanboys. There really was a whole new level of freakiness over it, with some participants encouraging the use of actual real girls in the fans lives as models for art and fic. I would be entirely unsurprised if there was some escalation to real world rape there.

I don't think it ever got anywhere near the actual game stage, I do remember seeing the cards at cons though, so it at least got to the point that someone or a group tried to turn it into a card game. Although the cards actually cut out a lot of the creepier aspects of the universe as it mostly just focused on drawings of sexy monster girls. Most of the really weird stuff was in the fanfiction, or the forums where posters would talk about revenge fantasies where girls in their life were transformed into pokegirls and they "tamed" them.

I dunno what the other poster is talking about, whilst I know some of the pokegirl community got kicked out of some anime cons for perving on female pokemon cosplayers, I don't think anything ever actually escalated into actual rape. Not as far as I know anyway.

Yeah, great, it lessens the bestiality overtones by making all the pokemon into sexy monster girls, but then dives right into the deep end of rape fantasy with sexual mind control, rape battles, and fetishizing the slow loss of sanity as women in the setting are transformed into pokegirls and slowly become sex slaves to whatever designated male protagonist was being written about. All that, and still often involving underage characters or pokegirls that were just blatant loli wish fulfilment. Didn't help that the setting was massive Gary Stu territory either, usually with stories bringing in other underage crossovers like 12 year old Naruto to act like a super nice guy whilst still sexually dominating pokegirls by the dozens.

I remember that setting gave me a temporarily uncomfortable association with the word "taming" whenever it came to Pokemon.

And I don't know what this is and am going by your description alone but... how is that abnormal for porn at all (except in that it's from a children's game, which to be fair is equally popular among adults)? It was unique mostly in the incredibly detailed and methodical way the world was set up, there were mechanics for evolution, battling, leagues, training, even an entire stat system with things like submissiveness and libido listed out for every pokegirl. The setting also tended to focus on blatant mind control themes as normal girls often got turned into pokegirls and quickly descended into insanity or sexual slavery.

Yeah, there's probably worse stuff out there, but this was attached to Pokemon, so it was a setting I found when I was barely a teenager myself.
