Re: Popular ships you anti-ship for benign reasons

I actually posted a secret a while ago mentioning that even though I eat up slash between repressed or angsty characters with a spoon, I have a hard time slashing male best friends who are very openly affectionate and intimate, because it's so, so, so rare for me to see male best friends who love each other without any macho homophobic bullshit that I'm actually more fascinated by the platonic-ness of their relationship than by the possibility of romance and sex, even if I can totally see and appreciate their slash potential for other fans. Case in point: Starsky and Hutch.

It's possible that I'm just not watching enough of the right shows though.

While this doesn't stop me from binging on and appreciating slash fic, I totally understand this mindset and it's part of why I love gen so much and seek out good gen fic so studiously.

Also, hey, I remember that secret! You had that adorable background pic of Hutch smooching Starsky on the cheek. Cutie pies. <3

So much yes. I feel this way about a lot of the "warm friendships" between characters in MCU, Star Trek, BBC Sherlock ...

Though I will admit that one of my few iron clad anime BL OTPs is a pair of best friends ... but they're pretty much separated by duty, so like you, it seems that the angst component makes it work for me.
