What infuriates me is that creators/editors keep insisting the comics don't try to emulate the movies and then they pull ridiculous, contrived shit like this. It's like, who are you trying to fool here?

But the comics featured a Nick Fury modeled on Samuel L. Jackson back in 2002. Jackson himself didn't play Fury in the MCU until 2008.

Yes, I mean the part where they constructed a ridiculous storyline just to replace white Nick Fury with SLJ Nick Fury in 616.

As someone said above: Measured against the incredibly ridiculous, convoluted storylines, time travels and AUs, this really doesn't even come close to being the "most ridiculous" storyline.

Pretty sure they're not trying to fool anyone. Pretty sure they're just doing what they think will get them more money.

We can all just laugh at it. Hopefully?
