Inspired by #4.

So, F!S, what shows have you got into solely for shipping purposes? And did you stick around and like the ship?

I did this The Sentinel and SGA, and I still have great fondness for those shows just because of how much I like the juggernaut ship. Thinking about getting into SG1 just for Jack/Daniel...

I never braved the Sentinel - like the poster of secret #4, I was worried it would not deliver what the fandom promised. Did you find otherwise, anon?

SGA I definitely watched for the slash. Hot Fuzz too. :)

If you want a seemingly bottomless pit of shippy fic filled with huge amounts of hurt/comfort, butch men crying and spirit animal visions then this is the fandom for you!

Unless you purely mean the show. Which, admittedly, is pretty bad. Also, a lot of things that are common in fic - e.g. Jim being to hear Blair's heartbeat in a crowded room/ across the country/ wherever - are fanon. But a lot of other super slashy things - like Blair moving into Jim's apartment for 'a week' and staying four years, Blair doing weird experiments on Jim all the time, Blair and Jim touching all the time and being jealous of each other's love interests, and the season 3 and 4 finales - they all happened.

If you want to watch the show, just so you can say you've watched some of it, I would recommend the pilot, The Debt (when Blair moves in with Jim), Warriors (When lots of the spiritual stuff is introduced), the season 3 two parter finale and the final episode ever. Make sure you have a glass/bottle of wine with you, and let yourself be immersed in the one of the most ridiculous love stories never explicitly told.

Me neither. It kind of boggles my mind that that happens. How can you ship people when you've never seen their show?

Fanfic. Copious amounts of shippy fanfic.

Stargate Atlantis for me too. I stopped watched mid S3 because of time constraints more than anything else, but I ended up preferring other ships anyway. Game of Thrones I only watched a couple episodes of, here and there, but I did read the books and I still ship Sansa/Sandor, which I think is the pairing that dragged me in. Sports Night I had to watch by downloading the episodes from the internet and I gave up after S1 just because it was such a pain. Love Dan/Casey, though, and I'd actually like to finish it up some day. Oh, and Merlin. I got pretty sick of Merlin/Arthur after S1 when nothing in their relationship changed, and I ended up shipping Merlin/Uther for unknown reasons instead. I have plans to watch Vikings for the Ragnar/Lagertha/Athelstan in the near future as well.

Supernatural for Dean/Castiel. I did like the ship for a while, but then Gabriel came along and I started shipping him and Dean. I ended up liking the show more than I did Castiel, actually.

I was really curious about Castiel and that was part of why I tried watching the show but then I didn't even finish the first season because the characters annoyed me so much, so I guess I'll never know if I would have liked him.

Teen Wolf for Derek/Stiles - I too was very surprised at the difference between what fandom lead me to expect and what was actually in canon. I thought Stiles was a canon gay character and that he and Derek would have a lot more interaction than they did. I still ship it in fandom because it's fun, but my shipping in canon is different.

The Sentinel like the above anon - I watched 2-3 episodes, didn't like it and haven't bothered with is since. I can't even remember the characters names.

Loveless - It was one of the first shounen-ai sort of anime's I came across. I loved it when I first watched it, but now find it a little slow and the ending too abrupt and unsatisfying - I do still like it, but don't rewatch it often and actually prefer the manga.

Supernatural for Dean/Cas - My interest was piqued by the idea of a Hunter and an Angel who pulled him from hell and all the fans talking about how they interacted, so I caught up in time to watch the end of season 4 as it ended. I ended up shipping the pairing pretty hard for awhile, then season 6 came and my interest in the show overall started to sour and my shippy feelings with it.

yep, sga for me too though i didn't get very far. and smallville--though again i didn't get very far...

The only show I can remember watching for a ship was Hawaii 5-0. I heard that Steve and Danny had a sort of McShep vibe to them and that the pairing was popular, then I saw a few fanvids and decided, yea, it looked up my alley and I was going to give it a try.

I adored them right off the bat (as well as the fic, too) and continued watching up until around episode 10 of this season. The show wasn't holding my interest much anymore and Steve and Danny (and Kono and Chin, the other main relationship I cared about) weren't having much screen time together; that didn't help.

I did just pick it back up again though (

ghostofcairo piqued my interest, then I saw some gifs of the two characters exchanging "I love you's" and wanted to know if they were real; they were!) and am only one episode from being caught up. I'll probably stick to it, this time.

Ooh, I quit Hawaii 5-0 at the beginning of this season, just after Kono came back - have there been any (Danno/Steve) developments since then?

Spartacus Blood and Sand, because all of those gifs of Agron and Nasir on tumblr looked awesome. And when I finally started watching it I just got hooked on all of the other characters because everybody is fucked up and terrifying but at the same time I just reaaally needed to know what was going to happen to all of them.

I didn't *start* watching for this, but I definitely *kept* watching The West Wing for Josh/Sam.

Anon from first page that just started trying Teen Wolf (one episode, to be exact) for promises of gay... mainly these Stiles/Derek people. Got bored in the first episode and everyone here is saying there isn't much subtext (assuming that's not the anti-slash folks talking) so am giving up.

Hannibal for Will/Hannibal. Didn't finish the first season yet, too much talking and cheesy crimes - wish I could just compile every Will and Hannibal interaction without wasting my time with the rest of it

I am interested in watching The Sentinel but sounds like it is pretty bad (while being awesomely gay). Don't know how much I can handle.

Torchwood for Jack Harkness/Ianto. I got through season 3. Season 3 sucked and was completely unnecessary.

A game, but Dragon Age 2 for Male!Hawke/Fenris.

OP, and I said this upthread, but if you want to get into The Sentinel here is my advice:

If you're a fan/ have got through other episode buddy cop shows for the slash - e.g. Hawaii 5-0, Due South, Starsky and Hutch - then I think you should be able to handle The Sentinel, if you're prepared to drastically lower your expectations of quality television. Basically, it's a pretty bad show. But it's also a very slashy show. A little bit with McShep actually. I was going to watch it anyway because Stargate but I'd seen a bit about John and Rodney and my interest was piqued so I gave it a go earlier than I originally planned, I ended up shipping it and loving the show to boot so win/win.

Well not really a particular ship but I started watching Lost Girl because it had a bisexual protagonist. It's worth the cheesiness.

I ship my housemates* and live watching game of thrones for their reactions (especially when I know something they don't)

*theyre married, to clarify.

Welcome to Night Vale - a friend lured me in with the premise of an adorable, canon queer couple. Ended up getting completely hooked on the premise, the other characters (Dana! Tamika! Khoshekh!), and, when it kicked in in full, the story. (THE END OF PARADE DAY, FUCKING... FUCK!)

I still adore Cecil and Carlos' relationship, but it's definitely not the main reason I keep listening.
