Not in my family. The white side is more interested in fetishizing me and my siblings while going on about how "ghetto" the black side of my family are. Despite the fact that my mom and almost all of my aunts, uncles and cousins are college-educated and have good jobs.

The white side of your family sounds pretty shitty (though I imagine you still love most of them) but did you really meant to say they are fetishizing you? If they're really fetishizing you then you have a waaaaay bigger problem than some rotten comments... unless you're into that sort of scene, in which case I'll just back away now.

"Fetishize" doesn't necessarily mean anything sexual. I'm guessing the other anon is using the term more along the lines of treating them like they're strange and exotic than finding them sexually arousing.

No, it's not OK. But things don't exist in a vacuum - cultures included - and often understanding the greater context (which the poster above you provided) is the only way to work through cultural problems (like how to accept biracial people in a society that's still pretty damn racist).
