CoM Secret!!! Sandry's my absolute favorite (well, tied with Briar but I think she kind of wins because of how dickish he and the others were to her in Will of the Empress).

I always went Tris > Niko > Vedris > Crane > Rosethorn > Briar > Daja > Sandry. I hated how nasty the others were to Tris in WotE, and how Sandry got nasty with Daja after the whole Shan incident.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-09 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Which Shan incident in particular?

I just thought they all turned into dicks for no reason and they all needed a lot of chill pills.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-10 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
True, but I still think they were disproportionally taking their problems out on Sandry.

*Shrug* I haven't looked at it in a while. So I'll have to take your word. I only remember hating everyone.

I have a couple of favorite characters who have large noses, so I am glad to hear of people being confident about theirs!

(Also, I really need to read those books again).

I love this entire series! Tamora Pierce ftw.

Same. I didn't have a "bird's beak" as you characterize yours, but I always felt like I had a big nose.

This is such a cute secret.

Big hooked noses are the absolute best. Awesome to draw, awesome to look at. They make one's appearance noble. Have no shame, OP, your nose is wonderful.

(and there's Sherlock Holmes, too! <3)

Yay, Circle of Magic. It's been forever since I read them.

I assume the complaining is done in a fun-hearted way and not in an "ugh, why must I be so pale and attractively underweight" Bella style?

If I'm remembering correctly, she wishes she could look down her nose imperiously, but gets teased (friendly-like) because her nose is too small. Briar at one point offers to pull it every day so it grows longer.

Definitely not in a Bella way, though.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-10 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
It's mostly done in passing, like, "Sandry wished wistfully that her nose was longer," or in a teasing way. Not like Bella Swan whining!

CIRCLE OF MAGIC!

*cough*

I'm glad that it can make you feel better, OP.

Circle of Magic Secret!!!!!!

Glad it made you feel better OP C:

(Daja and Briar were my faves...and I think there's a sequel to CoM but I;m timid about it being as enjoyable? Cause I really liked CoM)

imho the author does a really good job of aging up the stories and characters as the characters grow up. the later stories feel like a natural extension of where the first quartet came from.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-10 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
The second quartet, The Circle Opens, were good books IMO, but definitely some gruesome stuff, unpleasant characters, darker storylines.

Of the third quartet, I've only read Will of the Empress, and I wasn't as thrilled with it. It was less cute mages doing magic things, and more medieval political intrigue with a side of soap-opera-worthy drama, which just wasn't what I signed up for with the series. It kept throwing me out of the story with OOC actions/attitudes/behaviors, storyline contradictions against earlier books in the series, constantly having to cross-reference the foreign language glossaries, etc. YMMV, I didn't like it.

Oh dear it sounds very different and also something i could enjoy but not sure if i could with these particular nostalgic characters hmmm

(Anonymous) 2014-05-10 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Personally I really liked WotE, it was a great extension of the characters as they grew up. I didn't like Battle Magic, though. It really rubbed me wrong; maybe because we got Rosethorn's POV and I was more happy with how I envisioned her without going through her POV... It felt weird.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-10 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know anything about the source material but if it helps anyone, I think big noses are sexy as hell.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-10 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yay, a fandom I'm in, finally! And an adorable secret, too <3

(Anonymous) 2014-05-11 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
I love large and angular noses. I think they're beautiful.
