I feel this way about most actors who go to cons. But some do actually like doing cons because they are just as big a geeks as their fans. They like interacting with the fans as well as checking out all the things that cons have to offer. Wil Wheaton comes to mind when it comes to these sort of actors. Bryan Fuller is another one. (Though he is a director and not an actor. But he is still a full on geek who loves his showbiz job and loves to share with his fans.)

This! There is a reason behind "One of Us" and "Ascended Fan" being well-used terms in fandom...several authors spring to mind as well, Ellison, Gaiman, Martin, Waldrop, Sterling, Gibson, Shepherd, Willis, Straczynski, David, Sawyer, Doctorow, Shirley....

Yeah, so. I have eclectic tastes. Problem?

Authors, producers and directors have a tendency to be more fan friendly about their projects than actors do. I think this because for them, the shows/movies/books are more like their children as opposed to many actors, where they see their roles as a gig to pay the bills. So, authors/producers and directors are like proud parents who want to discuss their "kids" with anyone who wants to talk about them.

I have lost track of the number of cons I have attended over the past 20 or so years and one thing I have noticed is that wide range of actors and how they feel about the fans. Some do it simply for the paycheck. Some do it for the ego boost. Some do it because they like meeting the fans and the interactions. A few do it because they themselves are big geeks and like the energy of the cons.

Not to mention those that do it for all of those reasons (e.g. Karl Urban).
