AYRT

OK. *deep breath*

I will not rant about the travesty done to the ACD Canon by BBC Sherlock. I will not rant about the travesty done to the ACD Canon by BBC Sherlock. Ahem. In series 3 of BBC!Sherlock, one of the male characters who was formerly a pathologist and/or detective of some sort (this was never made clear), has some kind of mental breakdown (it's meant to be funny) because the man he hated/loathed/despised/was trying to get one over on with his GF, "died." (See: "The Adventure of the Final Problem." Which is much better than The Reichenbach Fall. Just as an aside.)

In the process of trying to investigate/rationalize/come to grips with Sherlock's death, this guy starts what is quite clearly a send-up of the insane(r) BBC!Sherlock fandom/fanclub, where they spin all kinds of wild theories about how Sherlock survived. The chick in the image in the secret has basically come up with the slash fanfic fix-it version, starring Sherlock/Moriarty, which they filmed.

Oh, thanks for clearing this up! I'm pretty uninformed on Sherlock fandom, heh.

I saw the scene slightly differently: while I don't think the scene was as funny as the writers intended, it finishes with Anderson getting angry and saying her slash fic is ridiculous, and she looks at him in incomprehension and says "Yes, so was yours". The "typical slash fan" knows she's writing RPS and knows it's fantasy. Anderson doesn't. So it wasn't bashing fandom in general, it was satirising the subset of fans who take it too seriously and lose touch with reality (whatever you take that to mean in practice). They were trying to make a fairly nuanced take on fandom; whether you think it works or not is up to the individual.

But in any case, the girl pictured was the only person in the room who had any self-awareness at all. She wasn't the main butt of the joke, IMO.

Anderson was a Scene of Crime Officer.

As of Series 3, BBC Sherlock basically has nothing to do with ACD canon.

(You can rant if you want to - you're an anon on the internet - no one will know.)

Don't worry, hon. Plenty of ranting going on amongst ACD canon fans. We just keep it under the radar of the BBCstans. Those folk are scary.
