I saw the scene slightly differently: while I don't think the scene was as funny as the writers intended, it finishes with Anderson getting angry and saying her slash fic is ridiculous, and she looks at him in incomprehension and says "Yes, so was yours". The "typical slash fan" knows she's writing RPS and knows it's fantasy. Anderson doesn't. So it wasn't bashing fandom in general, it was satirising the subset of fans who take it too seriously and lose touch with reality (whatever you take that to mean in practice). They were trying to make a fairly nuanced take on fandom; whether you think it works or not is up to the individual.

But in any case, the girl pictured was the only person in the room who had any self-awareness at all. She wasn't the main butt of the joke, IMO.
