Mwahaha. Whatcha readin'?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-09 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
One of the fics I love has finaly updated. So now I must read it. You all reading any good fics?

I was reading a really great regularly updated WiP but with the last update I realized they are never going to get these two nerds together until probably the last sentence and the oblivious/misunderstandings thing is just getting way too much. It's on 5/6 chaps and it prob could have been wrapped up in 3. I am jealous of your good fic!

No. I feel like I haven't found a really good fic in forever.

The Tony Stark/Martin Crieff story I love has gotten a new Part! I am so excited! And then I got a ton of Bucky/Steve fic bookmarked. I am really looking forward to the zombie apocalypse one.

I am eternally jealous of everyone who goes 'Okay, gonna read some fic before bed!'. Reading all the fics for my ships/fandoms would not exactly require staying up at night to finish. My OTP hasn't had a new fic in ... four months. Rarepairs in a small fandom suck.

Re: Mwahaha. Whatcha readin'?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-10 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
I understand that feeling all to well. Damn near all my fandoms were fairly large in their heyday, but they're dying and hardly anybody writes fic for my rarepairs. So I'm stuck rereading the few fic that I have.

Yep, exactly. Or rereading my own fic. All-time low, there. It's just not the same as discovering a new fic, but beggars can't be choosers.

Re: Mwahaha. Whatcha readin'?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-10 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
I'm no writer so I don't even have that option. What's worse is during my rereads I will start noticing mistakes, oocness, general badness and I can't enjoy the fic. So that my number of fic to read dwindles.

Plus, I can't reread a fic too much in a short amount of time or I will lose and enjoyment I get out of it.

Hahaha... I've been there.

Re: Mwahaha. Whatcha readin'?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-10 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
I feel ya. Hell, I like a canon pairing in a big fandom, but because everyone's stuck on two other characters my ship feels like a rarepair. I mostly lurk in the fandom, but I'm about ready to write something. That is a scary thought (especially since I tend to write way more original stuff than fanfic).

Re: Mwahaha. Whatcha readin'?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-10 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
LOL my rarepair OTP hasn't updated in about 3 years. :[

And as far as the "reading your own fic" as an all time low...I read my own fic and I find it pretty amusing, haha.

It's the lack of fic of my rarepair is what drove me to write the fic I'm curently writing. I might post it on the sites where I tend to look for updates. Maybe someone else might enjoy what's been written.

My fandoms do tend to have one shots OR WIPs I have no interest in, but umm I just finished a nice (albeit shippy, which isn't my cup of tea) RoL fic? Here:

http://archiveofourown.org/works/1391131/chapters/2914315

the plot is a bit goofy, but it makes sense and the prose is pretty good. Also, everyone is IC.

(I'd give just about anything for a good ACD Holmes WIP. And, hell, for a Murder Rooms thing, obviously, but the last fic for this fandom was completed in 2011, so I don't hold out much hope).

I feel like I'm perpetually reccing Phantom of the Opera stuff, but I really loved Shadow Government by Quiet2885.

It's a future dystopian AU where Christine was raised in a religious cult, Raoul is her childhood friend from her pre-cult days, and Erik is one of the key forces behind the cult and also a key force behind why the government has gone to shit. And it is amazing.

Re: Mwahaha. Whatcha readin'?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-10 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. She's still writing? Haven't really been keeping up with phandom stuff since people started saying they actually liked Love Never Dies. I decamped for the Rumbelle fandom, along with a shitton of phans, but the way OUAT is going to shit so quickly, I may be back. Especially since casting Norm Lewis in the Broadway production flushed out a bunch of racists, so I have more idea who to avoid.

I just wish we'd get another adaptation (oh for the days when we thought we'd get Jeremy Irons as Erik) to shake things up. Ramin Karimloo is loads better than Gerard Butler, but seeing him become people's default (young, sexy) Phantom still creeps me out. Although not as much as Rierra shippers do. RPF was bad enough when there was only Lloyd-Webber and Brightman to worry about.

LOL WUT. I thought PotO fandom hating on Love Never Dies was just as ubiquitous as ATLA fandom hating on The Last Airbender. I mean, granted Beauty Underneath is pretty damn catchy as a standalone thing... and Devil Take the Hindmost ain't too bad either, but still. Even if I've somewhat warmed up to the music, just the sheer awfulness of the basic plot. It's like gilding a framework of rotten, termite-infested wood.

But yeah, she's still writing. I've seen her stuff everywhere, but this is the first fic of hers I've read all the way through. For some reason her stuff is hit or miss with me. Broken-vow remains my favorite author.

I dipped my toes in the Rumbelle fandom. Liked it in season one, but season two was a bit too much "I CAN BRING OUT THE GOOD IN HIM EVEN THOUGH HE KEEPS DOING DESPICABLE THINGS IT'S ALL OKAY BECAUSE INNER GOODNESS" for me. Which maybe is a bit stereotypical for me, given my choice of ships, but I like my girls calling out their bad boys and sticking to their guns. Not glossing over their flaws because IDK true love or something.

And Norm Lewis is amazing. I should be surprised at the racism, but ugh. Their loss.

Call me cliche, but Michael Crawford is my forever phantom. Although visually, muirin007's Kay-based phantom has really grown on me over the past year. I think I picture that over the ALW deformity now. Agree that Ramin is waaaaaaaay better than Gerard, both in vocals and visuals. I think I'm still so happy about the slow exodus of Gerard!phantom, that Ramin's age hasn't started to bother me yet.

As for Rierra, I think I'm a borderline. I friendship them very much like I do David Tennant/Billie Piper, Leo/Kate, and several other duos. I just want them to remain friends forever and ever and ever and keep collaborating on future stuff together. RPF is a still an instant "nope" though.

The writing in the Babylon 5 fandom is pretty quality overall. I've been reading season appropriate fic recs to avoid spoilers. I need more G'Kar/Londo though.

As did I. And then I was ready to curse you further when I saw that the most recent one isn't completed, until I saw that it's being updated at an impressive rate. Yay!

Being both a die-hard Steve/Bucky shipper, a history and (social) media nerd, and a huge angst/whump lover, I am positively drowning in great fics. :D
