I knew what I was getting into and knew it probably wouldn't be comfortable the first few times. But even with a loving, experienced, and patient partner, it never got close to feeling neutral, let alone pleasant. I know other people make it work quite happily, but it went out poorly enough for me that the thought of it is an instant turn off.

Believe me a lot of people don't like anal sex, and don't do it. That includes gay men, some never do anal. I know this as I worked for many years in a clinic, and yes lots of gay men did anal, but many didn't, and a lot who did it wouldn't be often. Straight people often didn't do it or didn't like it.

Lots of women don't like giving blow jobs either. All my years listening to people talk about sex, I realised one of the problems is expectations and pressure people feel to do things, often keep doing them when they simply don't want to, those who had the best sex lives were the ones who were clear about what they wanted and that was what they did.

Some people just don't like the what-what in their butts. I don't. I've tried it a few times, solo and with excellent lovers, and it just doesn't do anything for me but feel uncomfortable and awkward.

I think the biggest 'whaaaaa' I had from gay-porn is that it doesn't (at least for me) ACTUALLY take like an hour to prep the ol' shit hole. And it doesn't really hurt to have a dick up there. Which is logical when you think about it. Look at the size of the poops that can come out of there.

Oh gosh, yes... the whole 'prep for hours' thing always kills me. Now, that's not to say I don't enjoy reading it sometimes (because, fingering = kink I like to read about) - but when it's implied that things are going to be all 'wrecked' and horribad if you're not super, extra, uber careful about prepping for ages and with like every single finger on both hands before a dick even gets anywhere near that hole! Um... Blargh.

Not to say that it can't hurt or it can't be damaging if you just jam a dick in there... but not everyone needs elaborate prep. (Now, if they skip the lube on the other hand... then I'd have concerns. Kind of worries me that I will still occasionally come across fic where people seem to think that anuses are self-lubricating...)

I got into a bit of a debate on fanficrants ages ago on this topic. Someone actually believed that you absolutely 100% of the time had to do the 1 finger, 2 finger, 3 finger, dick or else ... I dunno. Dire consequences.

They did not believe me when I said that my first time experiencing anal basically involved me, a guy, copious amount of lube... and just shoving it in there. There were no fingers, no elaborate prep. It was a bit uncomfortable, kinda pinchy and stretchy, and totally weird - but the world didn't end! Granted, we were young and dumb and nowadays, I'm likely to ask for the fingers just because I enjoy them... But still.

Aaaand that last sentence is what convinced me to try anal in the first place. LOL. No joke, sometimes a big, healthy poop feels really, really good! I figured if it's that pleasant going out, it can be just as pleasant going in. Once I got over the sensation of "OMG big poop comin' through!" ('cuz the bf's endowed like whoa) I found it tons of fun.
