I hate how some feminists insist if you're for equal rights between genders you must be a feminist.

Re: Controversial opinions

(Anonymous) 2014-05-11 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
But that's the actual definition?

Re: Controversial opinions

(Anonymous) 2014-05-11 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Not OP but I'm for the ability to self-label myself as whatever I want. Regardless of some online casual feminists say about feminism=Equality, what is said =/= what is done.

Even so, you're robbing people of deciding for themselves if they want to identify with a political moment that has many known issues.

How would you feel if I labeled everyone for equal rights an egalitarian?

but if some people don't want to identify as such , the they shouldn't have to. Like...if they want to call yourself something else, why should that matter as long as they don't act like a shithead to people?

I feel like a lot of people on the internet can be a bit self righteous about their ideology. It happens on all sides of the spectrum too, not just one. They decide that they and their group can be the only "good people" and if someone else points out flaws in their ideologies they respond by hissing and spitting and then being all "well you must be scum" or insisting people do it because "you should be on OUR side."

I remember seeing someone saying they wish to kill women who don't ID as feminist and then themselves and I found it just a bit horrifying. Like that kind of shit is messed up.

ehhhh

Feminism is a collection of movements and ideologies aimed at defining, establishing, and defending equal political, economic, cultural, and social rights for women. This includes seeking to establish equal opportunities for women in education and employment. A feminist advocates or supports the rights and equality of women.

So you don't like... the truth? Uh, okay then.

Ohhhh wait, are you of those people who insist that women being treated like human beings somehow hurts men?

Did you even read the replies to this thread?

Oh. Are you referring to Dethtoll above telling me that I am obvs a feminist even though I said I was not.

I wrote this before I read dethtoll's comment, so no.

I get where you're coming from, but it is the definition of feminism, and I hate how people tell me it's not because they said so.

I don't think anyone should be forced to adopt a label they want to use, of course. I just see where they are coming from.
