Comics can be ridiculously expensive even IF you can find them. Well, depending on what you're looking for, but some TPB's are $70+ out of print. (And I'm sure that's the low end. If you want to own something that's extremely old or rare you could easily be spending thousands of dollars. Which is insane.)

I think torrents are much easier too because they often collect everything in one place and again, depending on what you want it can be super frustrating to track everything down. (Hell, I wanted a specific issue of an image comic that I couldn't even find to buy on their website. Like, I googled that shit and searched again and again and it didn't appear to be for sale anymore. I gave up and torrented that shit.)

Torrenting is definitely the only option for comics older than 10 years, too. There are a fuckton of comics from the 80s and early 90s I would not be able to read if not for the MTCDC series.
