I don't give a shit about trans* rights, like, at all. I will refer to you by your selected pronoun, but I will never care about which bathroom or dormitory you get to use. I kind of see it as just a weird personal choice, and I don't feel like anything needs to be changed to deal with it outside of basic politeness.

I've never seen the point of separated bathrooms in the first place. Apparently the idea is that if men and women have the same bathrooms, the men might rape the women while they're "vulnerable"? My school's dorms have unisex bathrooms, and I've never heard of a rape occurring in one of them.

But...it's...not a weird personal choice? There are biological differences between trans and non-trans people.

Well, I mean. There are actual legal issues surrounding that "weird personal choice". Like, trans* people have been harassed and even arrested when caught in certain bathrooms because many places don't have legal protections for them. It's great that you personally don't care where people pee, but unfortunately your indifference isn't the norm.

Yeah, it's not a personal choice though. It's a real disorder, with a biological basis. An anon mentioned this, but clarifying: there actually are differences in the brains of transgender individuals that correlate to the brains of the sex they believe they are/should be (to be specific, in several nuclei of the hypothalamus, but majorly the preoptic nucleus).

Those differences are thought to be due to excess sex hormones during specific stages of embryonic development.

The more you knoooowwwww~

Would you happen to have any links to studies on this? I know the basics but I've been wanting to read up on this more.

Sorry, I completely lost most of the links when I was throwing out old class notes. Googling preoptic nucleus sexual dimorphism should get you started though.

Whether or not you give a shit about trans rights - it's not a personal choice, like several people above me have stated.

There are actual biological differences for trans people, beyond any kind of surgery or hormones they might choose to have.

Not to mention - the dormitory/bathrooms thing is kinda important, since harassment can occur, and all too frequently, that harassment turns violent.
