It'd kind of be stuntcasting, which is never a really good sign, but I think if he played it well - more quietly and subtle, instead of resorting to caricature - it could be really good and maybe one of his best performances in years. There's absolutely nothing guaranteeing that he would necessarily make a bad Doctor Strange, although it's very possible.

Technically, Robert Redford for Winter Soldier and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym in Antman are stuntcasting too, but Redford gave quite a performance in Winter Soldier.
