I dunno, maybe Johnny Depp would manage to play a unique and interesting character again if he just got away from Tim Burton for eight movies or so.

It'd kind of be stuntcasting, which is never a really good sign, but I think if he played it well - more quietly and subtle, instead of resorting to caricature - it could be really good and maybe one of his best performances in years. There's absolutely nothing guaranteeing that he would necessarily make a bad Doctor Strange, although it's very possible.

Technically, Robert Redford for Winter Soldier and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym in Antman are stuntcasting too, but Redford gave quite a performance in Winter Soldier.

I don't think Depp has the depth for the role. He might make a good Deadpool in a movie about some other superhero. He's good at background crazy.

My vote for Dr. Strange is Idras Alba, because after seeing what his character looks like in Pacific Rim, I think he would be one of the best actors to pull off the physical appearance of Dr. Strange, he'd just be black in the MCU.

If we had to go for a white guy, I've heard people say Viggo Mortensen would be good, and I think he could pull off the actor, but not sure if he'd look a lot like the comic book version of Dr. Strange.

I'm curious to know what Depp has been saying and doing? I don't read celebrity news, but this I want to hear.

I don't follow the Marvel comics canon, but please, god no. Everything he's been in lately makes me cringe and it seems to me like he's on his way to becoming box office poison. Which is a shame because I liked him in Ed Wood, Fear and Loathing and a bunch of other movies.

Ehhh. If it makes sense, I don't think he has the voice for it? Dr. Strange has a particular 'voice' in my head, and Johnny Depp's is... not that.

No, for two reasons-

1. Shitty actor pandering, as in- oh, how can we get people to see Alice in Wonderland and The Lone Ranger? PUSH JOHNNY DEPP INTO THEM OF COURSE!

2. Johnny's method of acting these days is so overdone and gross, not how I imagine Strange in the slightest, and needs to go away forever.
