Everything got ugly post 9/11. Osama won the war on terror, even if he (eventually) got killed. The society, culture, and values that existed pre-9/11 was wiped out less than a week after the towers fell.

Dare I ask: what do you mean? What culture and values? (honestly. I was 11 at the time, I don't have a clear frame of reference, but I have never heard this before.)

On the other hand, it apparently got MTV to actually play rock music videos for a few weeks. I wasn't around the house long enough to watch any of them because my high school went ahead with homecoming about a week and a half later. Since I was in band, I had a fair amount to do for that.
