Because sexism teaches us that gender roles must be oppositional. So just as women aren't allowed to feel anger and men are ONLY allowed to feel anger, women are supposed to be looked at, therefore men are NOT supposed to be looked at. Design choices follow from there.

lol yeah, men are supposed to be looked at by hot young women though and I think designers think hot young women all have the same taste or something IDEK.

Men are supposed to look at hot young women, and hot young women are supposed to like men for their personality/job/money/etc. so their clothing doesn't matter.

eh, I don't entirely agree. Yes, hot young women are supposed to like men for a variety of reasons, and there's absolutely a double standard, but there are tons of ads for clothing, scents, etc. that are supposed to be used by men to attract said hot young women physically.
