Almost no one ever gets Australian accents right. The only country I would trust to do one right is New Zealand, since they have the same accent, barring some vowels, and it usually shows in the NW actors who have built their careers over this side of the Tasman.

I'm pretty good with accents, and even after living there for four years I still can't do an Aussie accent. I can manage to imitate my one friend by repeating her exactly, but I can't apply that to other utterances.

Some Australians have an awkward Australian accent! True story, the first time I watched Fifth Doctor-era Doctor Who, I assumed the actress playing Tegan was a Brit putting on a really exaggerated accent. Turned out that JNT had asked actual Brisbanite Janet Fielding to exaggerate her natural accent so the audience would realise she was meant to be Australian or... something.

Also, when I went to New Zealand last January, my accent genuinely morphed into a Kiwi one while we were there. It was totally involuntary and I didn't even realise I was doing it until Mum laughed at me.

I just wonder, about Janet Fielding, how long she'd been living in Britain before she got the role of Tegan.
