This happens with pretty much every MCU ship

Once you've read about 10% of the fics, you've read 90%, because the same shit is getting recycled and re-used over and over again.

This happens in every large fandom, really. The first 10% are the "original stuff" and another 10% are more interesting or unique things, while the remaining 80% is copying that first 10%.

The trick is to find a pairing where the recycled and dominating ideas are to your taste. I love Steve/Tony, but most of the common fics/Stony fic tropes are...well, not disliked, but not something I actively like in large doses. I've gone diehard Steve/Bucky, not because I think it'll be different - I'm sure before the year is out most of the new Stucky fics will be repeats of everything that's come out in the last month or so - but because at least the tropes and trends are stuff that are far closer to my tastes (mindfucks, major whump and angst, less contrived plots, historical details, etc.).

heh. Stuckey's is a roadside chain of convenience stores in the southwest. so, that is a pretty hilarious portmanteau because now I'm going to think of pecan logs every time someone mentions Steve/Bucky.

I... think you might mean Southeast rather than Southwest?

I grew up in the Southwest and never saw a Stuckey's, yet I know I've seen at least one in Indiana (which isn't Southeast, but that's where most of them are concentrated, so you know what I mean).

I love pairing portmanteaus when they end up accidentally (or purposefully) referencing something else. My favorite was probably when Arther/Gwen was smushed into "Arwen" in the Merlin fandom. Though I'm still disappointed the Steve/Tony fandom didn't use "Starkers".

Arwen! nice. someone upthread mentioned Stark Spangled Banner and I do think that's my very favorite so far.
