People really like to imagine Loki as delicate and broken, OP. They really like it a LOT.

[personal profile] cbrachyrhynchos 2014-05-12 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Which I think counts as one of the stupidest ideas ever to grace fandom.

Especially Loki/Stark? Loki likely could rid himself of any Stark problem by waiting him out, if he wasn't actively playing Stark for the opportunity to lock him in his own armor and drown him in the blood of his employees.

This is one of the reasons I stay away from the more Loki-heavy parts of Avengers fandom, I find this fanon and the heavy breathing they do over it profoundly creepy

Disclaimer: Of course I say this acknowledging people can have their preferences.

Personally I don't go for this. I prefer fic that goes along the lines of Loki being genuinely dangerous/unhinged. I think a lot of this is down to the fact I don't think MCU canon has quite managed it convincingly yet, even after saying he's "seen things" that made him the way he was in Avengers.

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-05-12 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
... Yeah, I noticed, and sometimes I like it too, but most of the times he doesn't feel like Loki when they do it

(Anonymous) 2014-05-13 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's probably one of my least favorite things about the avengers fandom along with the fact that a lot of fanfic makes thor seem way more dumb than he is and REALLY FUCKING LOUD ALL THE TIME. I mean, don't get me wrong, I like whump as much as anyone (and, ngl, I would read a shit ton of thor whump) and I even read the odd woobie![whoever] once in a while but that shit gets old real fast. Tony gets it a lot too which is also incredibly annoying (what is it with fandom and turning emotionally stunted middle aged men into delicate, feeble minded crybabies?)

I mean, there is a good bit of whump but I don't think the majority are that kind of Stockholm syndrome scenario. I actually disliked Saga of the Hug Fortress. D:

Then gods are conspiring to hide it from me

(yeah I know that fic is my guilty pleasure I was just kinda hoping the author would find this somehow and update it uhuh)

Just here to call dibs on "Hug Fortress" as a band name.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-12 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh, You and I must be reading different Ironfrost fics because it's my fave pairing too, and I've read a bunch of fics and have only seen one that slightly fits that scenario (although Loki was hardly frail in that one either, despite being injured). I'd actually be interested to read a fic like the ones you've described, but I've never really found one.

This is the closest I got to Stockholm Syndrome (that isn't outright non-con) Poetic Justice http://archiveofourown.org/works/635514/chapters/1150585

I have quite a bit of super whumpy Loki as well.

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-05-12 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
How not?? I'm not brave enough to browse AoO on my own, and all I find from rec lists are AUs and Thor showing up at the Avengers tower; "my brother is not safe at home"/"earth is his punishment" and then leaves him there for Tony to make fun of.

Huh. Now I'm starting to wonder if I missed something, too. Maybe it's got something to do with the fact that it's really hard to get Tony and Loki together unless one of them Loki, it's totally Loki, judging from all the fic I've read has a really good reason to ask for the other one's aid? Don't get me wrong, I'll be there and I'll ship it if the fic is good, but it's kind of hard to imagine these two getting together unless they've got a really good reason to form a temporary truce.

The loving descriptions of Loki being malnourished do get grating after a while, though. So glad I've missed all the slave fics.

(Slightly off topic, but I freaking love all the portmanteaus for MCU ships. Frostiron sounds ridiculously pretty.)

Semi OT: but did the anon I recced the Loki/Jane fic to a while back like it or not? This seemed like a good secret to get your attention.

I'm pretty much the queen of crack-ships, but even I think this is stupid.
Loki KILLED Tony's friend (or at least he cared about Coulson enough to have a little meltdown after his death.) Aside from that, Loki is also pretty much every flaw and mistake Tony dispises about himself. They both had their lives take a turn for the worst and permanently change them. Tony, saw how much of an shallow ass he was, and became determined to change himself into a better person and help people. Loki on the other hand, just threw a whiny tantrum and and killed a bunch of innocent people because waaaah daddy wuvs Thor more den me!!!1!1 (which even that isn't true.)

Tony would never stoop as low as doing the do with Loki. There's no way the two would EVER bone unless it was rape.
which honestly is the only way I can ever see Loki in any "relationship". The dude just screams sexual assault.

If you like it cool, I just see it as way too problematic and says a lot of negative things about fandom.

Wow, this whole concept sounds pretty horrible. I'll be sure to stay the fuck away from that.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-13 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
I can't ship Loki with anyone. *Anyone*. I've tried. And FrostIron? Is one of the ships that truly makes my eyes cross, it's so completely bizarre and out of left field because there's not a single instance where I could see it being plausible. Shit, Clint/Coulson would make more sense to me than FrostIron, and I can't stand Clint/Coulson because it's one of those 'but HOW' pairings.

It's a pairing filled with poor characterization

(Anonymous) 2014-05-13 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, it just is. The validity of the pairing has nothing to do with the fact that it stars two of the fandom's favorite woobies, and it's rare to find a fic that doesn't take that to extremes in either Tony or Loki's direction. Sorry the fic you're finding is crap, OP.

This happens with pretty much every MCU ship

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2014-05-13 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Once you've read about 10% of the fics, you've read 90%, because the same shit is getting recycled and re-used over and over again.

This happens in every large fandom, really. The first 10% are the "original stuff" and another 10% are more interesting or unique things, while the remaining 80% is copying that first 10%.

The trick is to find a pairing where the recycled and dominating ideas are to your taste. I love Steve/Tony, but most of the common fics/Stony fic tropes are...well, not disliked, but not something I actively like in large doses. I've gone diehard Steve/Bucky, not because I think it'll be different - I'm sure before the year is out most of the new Stucky fics will be repeats of everything that's come out in the last month or so - but because at least the tropes and trends are stuff that are far closer to my tastes (mindfucks, major whump and angst, less contrived plots, historical details, etc.).

Fic recs?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-13 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
I'm actually into this pairing, but I've given up on reading it because of pretty much the same reasons the OP mentions.

I also like bottom (or bottoms from the top) Tony Stark, or where they switch. I think I might rage quit if I have to read one more fic where Loki has uke syndrome and I expect him to break out in tears at any second.

(also. I knew what healing cock was, but I don't think I ever came across it as often as I do now when searching for Frostiron fic.)

I will also take all your Bucky/Steve/Tony Stony and Team!gen fic recs.

Frostiron is my fave pair too. I really don't get all the Loki whump love though. He's pretty when he's hurt why can't people write him as the the strong alpha male he is? Same goes for Tony.

(My fave fics are 'Off The Record' and 'Winterheart', both by Goddamnhella)

Yeah...another fan of the pairing here, and I've pretty much read all AO3 has to offer. Well, almost. *g* And the type you mentioned is insanely popular. Sort the pairing by number of kudos, and you'll get lots of that stuff early on. (Although the two most popular fics are definitely not that type and well worth the read.)

But there's really everything to find - the Anastasia fusion, harmless courtship fluff, dark!Loki and Tony causing mayhem, and so much more. And some of those are actually quite good.

So, maybe give it another try?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-14 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Because everyone just copied Off the Record by goddamnhella, and then it just became a trope of the pairing in general.
