It's okay. I recall as a child being quite badly disappointed when he turned into a generic-looking dude. The beast was cool.

I had the same reaction when I saw the musical. I was so disappointed because the Beast looked and sounded kind of hot, and then he was just a plain dude. Poor Belle!

Even the people who made the movie considered his human form a letdown. It got cut because they decided it undercut the moment too much, but supposedly there was originally a bit after the transformation where Belle asks him if he wouldn't mind growing a beard.
