A-freaking-men, OP.

I get it; the comics continuity is huge and complicated and contradictory and has a real problem with douchebag gatekeepers. (I apologize for the latter part, and we're working on it.) It is totally okay if you don't want to delve into the fathomless dungeon of crazy that is the Marvel Universe. (It is also okay if you DO want to; we have a lot of fun in our fathomless dungeon of crazy.)

But hey, you don't have to. The MCU is right there, it's brand-new and relatively non-insane, it's designed to be totally accessible, and it's REALLY GOOD. Enjoy it! Use MCU events and characterization, they're terrific! Nobody will be upset at you!

Just don't say you're doing one thing if you're doing the other. That shouldn't be too much to ask.
