I agree with you but I've come across people who want every single minor pairing to be listed because they hate some pairings so much that they don't even want to come across them in the background. I got told off for questioning that before. Apparently it's not all that rare? idk

Yeah, I think I've seen that sort of attitude before. Personally, I only tag pairings/characters that have a main role -- so if there's a background pairing or a character that's just in one or two scenes, I don't add tags for them. If that pisses some people off that's too bad, but I'd rather do that than disappoint someone who was actually searching for those specific pairings/characters.

Wow, those people are ridiculous.

Some of those people have character squicks, though. I can totally relate - years back I read a Harry/Snape story, only to be surprised with a developing Draco/Hermione/Neville relationship, which resulted in several rather explicit sex scenes. Not something I was prepared for, and not something I wanted to read in my Snarry.

So yeah, I'm all for listing all the pairings that get "screen time" in the fic, and if a past relationship is important, maybe add that tag, too, but mention that it's past. It's not difficult. Steve/Tony, past-Steve/Bucky...then we know what to expect.
