Re: Most memorable encounters with a celebrity

I went to Dallas Comic Con last year specifically to meet/see Ioan Gruffudd, who I've had a crush on for years. I went dressed in my "homemade" (assembled from stuff I bought at thrift stores) Hornblower cosplay, despite the heat. Furthermore, I and a bunch of Hornblower fans had written letters to him/his agent, offering support for the rumor that he wanted to bring Hornblower back to the screen, but none of us had even gotten a form letter in response, so I was planning to ask about his fanmail policies.

Long story short, I was the last person called on during the Q+A, and I, nervous and in front of Ioan, the moderator, and at least two hundred people, blurted out, "What's the weirdest piece of fanmail you've ever received? Because I sent..." and that's as far as I got before the audience started laughing. Somehow I managed to explain myself and then sat down, absolutely mortified. Ioan had a sense of humor about it and answered the question, and then he had to leave. I stood up to clap, because hey, EVERYONE stands up to clap nowadays, right? Wrong. I was the ONLY one who stood up. I stopped after a few claps and put my head on my knees, just kicking myself.

And then the audience started making a lot of noise, and I looked up to see Ioan sprinting down the aisle towards me, where he then proceeded to give me a hug and apologize for never writing back. I was in shock.

Later, I went to the autograph booth, where he recognized me, sounded genuinely pleased to see me, and signed my "Making of Horatio Hornblower" book with "You are just wonderful! Thank you for all your support."

One year on, and I STILL can't believe it actually happened.

That sounds absolutely adorable (though had I been in your spot I probably would have combusted on the spot out of embarassment).
