Most memorable encounters with a celebrity
(Anonymous) 2014-05-14 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)Re: Most memorable encounters with a celebrity
my dad and brother got to meet Nathon Fillion, a thing they rub in my face every fucking time it comes up, but I've met like, VA's and stuff at cons?Re: Most memorable encounters with a celebrity

So, I was at this con when I wandered over to the Funimation booth. I don't recognize either of the people, and I figure that they're probably just funimation people that got to work the con.
Then one of the guys opens his mouth to answer a question, and it's J. Michael Tatum. I knew he was going to be at the con, of course, but I hadn't expected him at the Funimation booth. He was super chill though, and took some pics with me, and signed my stuff.
:)

(Anonymous) 2014-05-14 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)He shamelessly (oh ho) ripped off my accent and way of speaking. Party trick for real. It was impressive but also somehow annoying and belittling.
He's a good actor, though.

Re: Most memorable encounters with a celebrity
(Anonymous) 2014-05-15 12:16 am (UTC)(link)"Oh, fantastic!" He started flipping through it, then said (I'm paraphrasing, of course), "one of the people who's doing art for the second book is here, and I wanted to show him some of what we did for the first book so that he has a better idea of what we're looking for. But I completely forgot to bring a copy! Is it okay if I take this and run over to him? I'll be right back!"
I was like "*deer in headlights stare* ...OKAY!"
"Thanks! I'LL BE RIGHT BACK EVERYONE!"
So, not only did I get my copy signed, but he used it to talk shop with one of his artists, and he wrote "thanks for loaning me your book" in it. I just about died. It was awesome.

I was waiting with a friend outside the Old Vic in London at the Stage Door sign for Ethan Hawke's autograph. No one else was waiting. Actors were trickling out and we just stood there under the streetlight waiting for Ethan. Josh Hamilton came out and leaned against the wall, waiting for someone, I guess. He just leaned there, about five feet away, staring at us. We stared back. This went on for an uncomfortable ten minutes, just the three of us. Staring.
Whoever he was waiting for never showed up and he walked away. Ethan came out a couple of minutes later, chatted with us, signed our programs and thanked us for coming to see him, which was very cool (he's super nice). But mostly? I remember Josh Hamilton. Staring.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-15 12:41 am (UTC)(link)I can certainly see how that would stick out in your memory.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-15 12:56 am (UTC)(link)I thought he was joking, but the next week I found out from the news that he wasn't.
Bill Bailey is amazingly lovely, by the way. Sweet and brilliant with his fans.
Re: Most memorable encounters with a celebrity
She was at a con once, years ago, and met Isaac Asimov, who wrote her one of his famous Lecherous Limericks. We still have the original, with his signature. It's pretty awesome.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-15 01:04 am (UTC)(link)I might have told a minor internet celebrity long ago about the RPF I'd written of him.
...It was. Kind of awkward. If it had been smut I'm sure he would have remembered it forever, but as it was, it just kind of...was a thing that happened, and he seemed to forget about it soon enough.
*cringes*
Re: Most memorable encounters with a celebrity
(Anonymous) 2014-05-15 01:09 am (UTC)(link)A fandom friend of mine once showed an actor very lightly erotic art I'd made of him (more silly than anything else) and I wasn't even there, and I'm still cringing.
It's all over now, at least. Right?
Re: Most memorable encounters with a celebrity
(Anonymous) 2014-05-15 01:11 am (UTC)(link)Long story short, I was the last person called on during the Q+A, and I, nervous and in front of Ioan, the moderator, and at least two hundred people, blurted out, "What's the weirdest piece of fanmail you've ever received? Because I sent..." and that's as far as I got before the audience started laughing. Somehow I managed to explain myself and then sat down, absolutely mortified. Ioan had a sense of humor about it and answered the question, and then he had to leave. I stood up to clap, because hey, EVERYONE stands up to clap nowadays, right? Wrong. I was the ONLY one who stood up. I stopped after a few claps and put my head on my knees, just kicking myself.
And then the audience started making a lot of noise, and I looked up to see Ioan sprinting down the aisle towards me, where he then proceeded to give me a hug and apologize for never writing back. I was in shock.
Later, I went to the autograph booth, where he recognized me, sounded genuinely pleased to see me, and signed my "Making of Horatio Hornblower" book with "You are just wonderful! Thank you for all your support."
One year on, and I STILL can't believe it actually happened.

My other one is more interesting but also more obscure. When I was in fifth grade we went on some government-themed field trip, I think to the state capitol, and the then-governor of Indiana (who later retired and has since died) went down lines of students shaking peoples' hands. I thought it was pretty cool, though I doubt he gave a second thought to any of us.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-15 01:42 am (UTC)(link)2. I also was friends with Dan Savage's brother Bill for a few years (Dan was @13 at the time, a gangly dork with curly brown hair and braces.)
3. I saw Scottie Pippen at our local Office Max once.
