Re: What is something you hate doing but everyone you know loves?
(Anonymous) 2014-05-15 01:35 am (UTC)(link)I live in Australia, and our entire culture revolves around sports.
Everything about it is so overhyped - they talk about these sports players as if they're heroes going into battle, and as if the matches are these epic, dramatic stand-offs. I just think it's boring.
And then there's all the commentary. After the match, during the match, before the match, analysing every little thing the players do and wear and say. I don't give a flying fuck.
I also wish we gave ACTUAL heroes (ie. people who save lives and work to make the world a better place) half the recognition these sportspeople get.
Then people ask me: "What team do you go for?" and I don't know what to say, because if you say you don't follow any sports teams, people look at you like you've grown a third head.
Re: What is something you hate doing but everyone you know loves?
God commentary is something I could do without on any sport, it's not really necessary and most of the time it's just two people prattling on about anything they can in order to fill the silence. And I think I'd prefer the silence tbh.
Yeah not rooting for a team is seen as weird over here too, I can get away with it more because I'm a girl and there's still that outdated idea that 'girls don't like football' but men like my dad and brother get weird looks because they don't like it at all but y'know they're men, they should.
