I got married last year and was horrified at the idea of spending thousands of dollars on anything so frivolous. My mom kept telling me that I could/should splurge because ZOMG IT'S MY WEDDING IT ONLY HAPPENS ONCE but I don't like loud, fancy shindigs anyway, plus we're trying to save up for my immigration up there! That's a lot more important.

I think our entire wedding came down to maybe $500-600, and most of that was getting the wedding license and booking the chapel for the ceremony. Most everything else was just "stuff we had on hand" or "gifts from friends/parents" (a pastry chef friend of ours made our cupcakes!)

I can't imagine spending that much money either. I hate spending $20 on shoes!

Well, we did want to get married, so we had to cough up for the license and the chapel, hahahaha XD

Like I said, most of the cost was that. I think my entire bridal ensemble was maybe $30, tops; I already had a cute white sundress to wear, and I just picked up a tiny white tophat (my husband wears one for his show, so I thought it'd be cute if we matched), $10 shoes, and a light wrap because it was cold in City Hall that day. People say I should've splurged but I think $30 was the max I wanted to spend on that, hahahaha XD (As I said, I don't like fancy, glitzy stuff; I like simple and plain stuff.)

I don't plan on getting married and I don't know about the average prices in the US but whenever I hear what people sometimes spend on the celebration of ONE SINGLE DAY I get kind of dizzy. Like, that amount of money could buy you a new car or pay your rent for several months or something!
