Man, everyone I know that watched the show wanted to punch him in the face. That's what he was there for. To take some of the face-punching desire off of Wes.

That's weird, I always wanted to punch Riker in the face. (Wes, too, though.)

Riker definitely had his punchable moments - especially in the first season. He was such a creeper pre-beard.

You're not kidding - I don't care for facial hair on most men, but for Riker? I'd say it was a necessity.

No. Everyone I know thinks he's completely adorable.

I think he was adorable too, but only later on. He was very punchable in his first episode.

'No' what? I mean, we know different people, I guess, but our people do not invalidate each other.

I never lost my desire to punch him.

I mean "no" he was not there to take the punching desire off Wesley. He was there as an audience-relatability character and someone more flawed and uncool than the intimidatingly competent main cast. Admittedly, audience-relatability characters never work for all audience members.

Ah, I understand now.

Yep.

I just wanted to be Wesley's eight year old girl friend. I was a little young for him, sure, but I knew when to reverse the polarity of the shield array even then. And I just emit tachyons naturally.

*dreamy Wesley Crusher sigh*

I didn't want to punch him, he just made me really uncomfortable because that's exactly how I would be in the same situation. (Including the trouble with the holodeck.)
