Evidence is increasing that they may very well be mentally ill, so I'd rather we were less about exterminating and punishing them. That hasn't worked out well the last few times we tried it. I think society should work harder at finding a treatment rather than anything else.

I'd rather you didn't commit suicide, but I don't belief in declaring anyone subhuman. That line of thought has not worked out well for anyone. If those people are mentally ill, and the evidence is beginning to stack up that way, then yes they are as much victims as the others involved.

I'd hesitate to say they're victims on the same level as the people they've hurt.

What's important to society is that they're confined. Curing them would be nice, but nobody should expect that they'll ever be fully trusted.

I don't think it would be great to have empathy for an anon detailing their rape and torture fantasies. Why the heck should I be empathizing with a disturbing display of sadism and otherwise bullshit? Please elaborate, I'm really curious.

it sounds to me like the "kill them all in horrible ways " anon is someone gucked up because they're in pain, and not because they actually get off on fantasies. It's more a lashing out flails thing.

It makes me sad that someone is that unhappy to be so full of hate. I don't agree with their suggestions but I can sort of understand where they might be coming from (which is where empathy would come in I guess.)

I think it's more that the "classify a group of people as unredeemable and heap all your revenge fantasies on them" attitude, while it feels good, is ultimately unproductive. Especially as there will come a day when an OMGPEDO gets caught, drawn and quartered etc, and then it will turn out the wrong person was caught.

It would be better to cure people's minds and also therefore leave open the chance to correct a mistake if the wrong person got caught.
