I hope when you say this you realize that is not a good thing and you wouldn't actually do that, man. It's one thing to have that desire, but another to act like it's a neutral personality trait. :(

I know it's a bad trait to have. That's why I'd rather be in Slytherin, with people who are kind to select people for an ulterior motive, than Hufflepuff, where people are kind to everyone for the sake of kindness.

no I mean like...in real life...I hope you don't apply it like that. in a fictional setting is another thing entirely

Oh, yeah, that's just the example I was giving because I though it'd be more relatable to you. Specifically, I was thinking of knowing that a coworker (father of three, with one kid in the hospital) was stealing household supplies (nails and small pieces of wood, mostly) and held on to that knowledge until after the annual seminar on stealing, and then going up to one of the managers and telling her knowing that I'd cost the office at least a $300 by keeping quiet until I could tell a manager who would tell my boss. I got promoted, and the other guy got fired.

I won't do the right thing unless it benefits me, basically.

I'm not really sure what to say to this. It seems you know that's a bad thing, and you...don't care?

It's sort of like...unless somebody's my friend, or unless I feel sorry for somebody, I won't treat them with anything more than basic politeness (at most, I'll hold open a door or compliment their hair or something)? Like...when he set up a gofundme page for his daughter's medical bills, I donated because I feel sorry for her (but not her dad, dude was an asshole). Or baking cookies for someone's birthday because she's my friend. But there's no guilt for getting that guy fired, partially because i didn't know it was going to go that far but mostly because I don't care about anyone who's not my friend until they've hurt themselves.

Basically, if somebody slipped and fell on some train tracks, unless they're my friend, a child, an animal, or injured, if I can see the train coming, I'm not going to help them up because that's too much risk to myself. I see my selfishness as something that i don't like about myself, but not something I'm willing to expend a great effort into changing. Does that make sense?

So you wouldn't just be a Slytherin, you'd actually be one of the Slytherins who give their house its bad rep.

You are literally a monster. Do you realize this? You're a MONSTER. You are a despicable excuse for a human being. Get to a therapist ASAP.

Oh, chillax. Better that people know their bad points than pretend they don't have any.

No. There's a HUGE difference between knowing your bad points, and knowing your bad points but going "yeah, I'm not going to bother trying to change."
