I'd rather be in Slytherin than Hufflepuff, too

[personal profile] elephantinegrace 2014-05-17 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Because as much as I'd like to say that my loyalty is my strongest trait, I know that my desire to get what I want through the least effort but most effectiveness (up to and including throwing other people under the bus while simultaneously making sure they don't realize I'm the one doing it), and I don't want Hufflepuffs getting hurt because they're in the way of that and generally expect others to be honest. Slytherins would at least be able to protect themselves because they'd expect it since they're the same way.

Ewwwww. You're really gross. You do realize this throwing people under the bus thing is not an okay trait to have, right? It's not something that's okay for you to feel. Like how it's not okay to feel rape victims deserve what they get, and it's not okay to feel that people should be discriminated against for disabilities.

If you do feel that way and just can't help it, there is something wrong with you and you are in danger of becoming an asshole - not a cute or bearable asshole either - and you need to either try to change your feelings or go to a therapist.

It's okay, you sound really gross too.

ayrt

Why? Because I think throwing people under the bus is gross?

Comparing throwing someone under the bus to rape victims is a bit much.

Though I totally get being disgusting by this.

I always thought the houses were more about what you valued than anything. That's why you get a choice in the matter. And that's how you get people like Hermione who everyone thinks should be in Ravenclaw but in the first book she tells Harry that his qualities like courage are what's truly important, not "books and cleverness".

Yep! They are. I think that's confirmed by now, if little-known? It's pretty heavily implied throughout the books anyway.

It's implied that you can choose if you feel really strongly. I may value loyalty above most other traits (that and active empathy), but I know that I don't embody that often. Hufflepuff is the house my best self would be sorted in. Slytherin is the house my average self would be sorted in.

So basically, you understand what morality is and why it is important perfectly well, but you just don't give a shit.

That's 1000 times worse than being a shithead but convinced the stuff you do is okay. That would just mean you were woefully misguided. But you? You are literally evil.

It's...really pretty concerning that you'll throw someone under the bus while making sure they don't realize you're doing it. Like, that's antisocial personality disorder type stuff.

Re: I'd rather be in Slytherin than Hufflepuff, too

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't call it antisocial personality disorder necessarily, that's a heavy thing to suggest, but it is definitely not something to be proud of.

After reading the rest of their replies in this thread, yeah, I definitely think she has antisocial personality disorder.

Wow. I mean, it's good that you're honest about it (here...in this meaningless forum, where you can't actually hurt anyone) but damn, you always seemed pretty cool. :(

What can I say? Acting's a cutthroat profession where you have to walk the fine line between making people like you enough to recommend you for roles while subtly trashing everyone who looks like you behind their backs and pretending it's not you to make sure you get the very limited number of roles available.

Until people figure it out, anyway.

Maybe you need to find a more compassionate profession.

Wow. And I always thought you were at least a marginally decent human being. Never speaking to you again, that's for sure.

Re: I'd rather be in Slytherin than Hufflepuff, too

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Or you know, you could just work hard enough to be so good, while also making connections and making people like you, that people recommend you for roles without you having to cheat by trashing people around you.

Or if that doesn't work, quit acting and ensure you live a life that you can take a little bit of pride in, and don't die a friendless, miserable, worthless piece of shit who has never made a modicum of positive impact on anyone and whose funeral will be attended by absolutely no one.

I hope when you say this you realize that is not a good thing and you wouldn't actually do that, man. It's one thing to have that desire, but another to act like it's a neutral personality trait. :(

I know it's a bad trait to have. That's why I'd rather be in Slytherin, with people who are kind to select people for an ulterior motive, than Hufflepuff, where people are kind to everyone for the sake of kindness.

no I mean like...in real life...I hope you don't apply it like that. in a fictional setting is another thing entirely

Now a lot of the shit you've said in the past makes sense. Welp, another reason to just scroll past you from now on.

They seemed alright beforehand, but this kind of thinking is a big ol' steaming pile of NOPE.
