A bunch of the Steve/Bucky fic I read has Tony as a prominent character in it. And no, Bucky is not a new Loki because Bucky is not a villain, he's a victim.

Frankly, the bashing is coming more from the Steve/Tony side which is suddenly feeling threatened in their juggernaut ship. So many prompts about Bucky raping Tony and Steve comforting him :')

hell, there is a huge wip which is supposed to be very, very good (haven't had the chance to read it yet) written entirely from tony's perspective. not to mention all that fic in which tony helps bucky with his arm (when it malfunctions, etc.)/makes him a new one/welcomes him to the avengers tower and gives him a place to live despite knowing him only as the winter soldier/helps him adapt in his own special, tony way, but yeah, bashing all around.

and ditto to the difference between bucky and loki. if you can't see the difference between a chaotic trickster god who brought all of his misfortunes on himself (i agree that odin was a shitty father, but so was howard stark, and yet you don't see tony hellbent on the destruction of the universe) and a victim of horrific violations to his mind and body, i don't know what to tell you.

also, ugh, really? so glad i haven't come across any of that...

Fandom is mostly good about it, but the insistence of the media that Bucky is a villain drives me up the wall. Like half the interviews with Sebastian Stan I've watched had the interviewer going SO HOW'S IT FEEL TO BE MARVEL'S NEW COOLEST VILLAIN??? and I just wanted to shake them. The movie features a scene that explicitly shows that Bucky's had all his agency and choices stripped from him, brutally and literally, and you come out of it calling him a villain? Bless Stan for being a massive Bucky fan and attempting to educate his interviewers on that.

It bothers me too. I guess most of them haven't done enough (or any, lol) research, but if you think Bucky is a villain then you've completely missed the point of the movie. (Granted, I'm sure the majority of them HAVEN'T seen the film but it would be pretty easy to find out what happened to him. If you still see him as a villain after watching Winter Soldier then THE FUCK?!)

And if we're talking about Loki and Bucky, Loki did everything with full awareness and freedom of choice. He had other options, Bucky was wiped clean, a tool with no real understanding of what he's ordered to do. It's a totally different situation.

OP

ugh, don't even get me started. but i loved sebastian's response--that he didn't think of the winter soldier as a villain, but as a threat. (and you could see in some of the other interviews that he was just so. done. with those types of questions.) so, yeah, as you said. god bless sebastian and his bucky-loving heart.

A lot of people in Loki fandom have decided Loki only did what he did in The Avengers because he was brainwashed but it's so obviously ridiculous that I don't know why people seriously worry about 'Bucky is the new Loki'.
