Yeah, I feel much the same way. Especially since, objectively speaking, it's impossible for any work of art to be "perfect" according to the more extreme SJ types. And before someone misunderstands, what I mean is that is that no group of people is a monolith.

Let me give an example. When the movie Avatar (blue cat people) came out, there was quite a lot of uproar in the disability community. The main character had recently become disabled and was struggling. He wanted to be cured (and did get a magic cure, which is a problematic trope, but that's not the point here). There were people who raged about the movie, claiming that it was ableist for him to not accept his disability and feel positive about it. I wish I were exaggerating about the "feel positive" part.

I am myself disabled and I emphasized very much with the character. If I could be magically cured of my physical health issues, I would absolutely jump for it. My physical disabilities cause me pain, suffering, physical limitations, and they affect my ability to socialize and have a life. Most of the folks in my disability support communities feel much the same way, but there were extremists protesting that the movie was ableist because it didn't portray a character who had come to terms with his disability and accepted it as part of himself.

So, who's right? You have two completely opposing standpoints, from within the same group. It is impossible to please everyone. And some people seem to want that, the elusive perfection that can never exist, and decry works of art that actively try to represent minorities for not being something that is impossible.

I won't say there aren't issues in DA, but it bothers me when people become hypercritical while ignoring the things that are done right, especially when they ignore other things that, as you say, are far more offensive. It seems to be the people who try who get the worst criticism, and that really upsets me, because imo it discourages people from even trying. And of course, there are people who will say that if you can't handle criticism, you're in the wrong business, but there is a very big difference between criticism and some of the SJW screeds.

And lest someone think that I am anti-SJ, I'm involved in SJ communities and care a great deal about these issues. I do analyse, hm, not usually individual works of fiction but tropes/issues that are common (such as the propensity in urban fantasy for the kick ass female main character to be the only woman in the book and express disdain and contempt for all other women, not to mention the frequent plot device where the supposed best in her field badass makes a too stupid to live mistake so the love interest can swoop in and save the day)... so, it isn't that I have no ball in this game, but the extremists scare even me.
