...her?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Drag queens usually use female pronouns for their stage persona.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
What the other person said. When you're talking about the stage persona "Conchita" it's "her", but the artist identifies as male, so if you're talking about the person behind the stage persona, it's "him".

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
She identifies as agender but prefers female pronouns.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
No. He really doesn't. He identifies as male and views Conchita as a different persona.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know what to believe! How intriguing.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
He (Tom) identifies as male and gay. "Conchita" is purely created for his art.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I was kind of joking because of all the conflicting information going on in this thread.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, I'll just believe what he said about the topic himself in several interviews. So yeah, I'm pretty sure the whole "agender and prefers female pronouns" smells of tumblr's usual "that person we want as our new macot is not snowflakey enough, let's add some stuff".

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
There's also this video though:

She's obviously speaking as her Conchita persona there and I really, really get the feeling that it was just a way for her to explain what she does to people who didn't get it.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh it's you.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah it's me. Not sure who you think I am but I'm definitely me.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
But I'm me!

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
But... but then...
Who am I?

WHO AM I?

I'M JEAN VALJEAN!

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
AND I'M

JAVERT

Do not forget my name

You win the internet, anon.

You win everything.

Yes she is. While Conchita Wurst is not transgender, she has stated she "prefers "she" and "her" and is more comfortable as Conchita than Tom the "lazy boy" she dresses down as" and "by her own description, she does not fit, but is "in between", non-binary".

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
So that makes her genderqueer.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
da

If someone says they identify as neither a man nor a woman, that doesn't leave many other options, does it?

Provided this wasn't an act, of course. It's sometimes hard to tell with drag artists. But she sounded surprisingly serious in this interview.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, yes of course she prefers "She" and "Her" in her female stage persona. Like just about every Drag Queen. But people keep talking about the artist behind that persona being agender and preferring female pronouns, which he isn't and doesn't.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I admit I know too little about her to form a solid opinion but I think it's really rude to force labels on someone, especially if they aren't aware of it.
He (Tom) said that he's a gay man who happens to perform in drag and have a female alter ego that should be addressed as a woman. He never mentioned anything (as far as I know) about being agender or genderqueer.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Go to bed, Vladimir.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I would bit it annoys me how people keep on squeeing about the trans/nonbinary representation when Neuwirth has stated that Conchita is a fictive person created to make a statement and that at home, he's just Tom.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-18 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Just think of Dame Edna, or Lily Savage. Conchita is a character and is female. The person whose character it is is male, but you would refer to Dame Edna using female pronouns and Barry Humphries using male, it's the same thing..
