Not that any of it was canon to begin with. Hell, everything *but* 'The Clone Wars' and now 'Rebels' was basically professionally published fan fiction in a shared universe. (And yes, I'm including my beloved KOTOR/TOR, and even 'Shadows of the Empire') I'm glad that JJ Abrams and the crew of 'Rebels' aren't beholden to events and characters that the general populace doesn't even know/care about. (Hell, if the show completely ignores Starkiller forming the Rebel Alliance, I will kiss Filoni, Kinberg, and Weisman's feet)
That said, despite my personal feelings, I honestly do feel sorry for the people who were fans of these characters/stories. The plus side? Most of them will still be reprinted -under the 'Legends' banner- so long as the demand is still there for them. And I'm pretty sure Marvel will occasionally reprint some of the comics, again, *if* the demand for them is there. Also, you still have fan fic, fan art, cosplay, et all. The characters/stories will not be forgotten/die so long as people still remember them.
But yeah... that's one of the downsides of being invested in a shared universe, OP. And sometimes, you gotta clean out the sandbox when it starts looking more like an overused kitty litter box. Which, lbr, is what the SWEU was starting to look like at this point, if not long before.
