I sort of understand why you would feel that way, but I'm also a little mystified why the decanonization is such a big deal.

The EU stuff was of wildly variant quality. Some of it was great, some was atrocious, but the biggest problem is that it covered so much ground, explored the universe from so many different angles, that taken in toto there's no way any continuation of the film series could've hoped to be compatible with all of it. Making a movie that wasn't a straight-up adaptation of any of the EU series would've been impossible.

I don't see this as functionally any different from the schism between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the comics from which they came. They're different, related canons, and when you're (say) writing fanfic, you can kind of pick and choose the parts you like from each.
