why would being timid turn them off from being your friend? What the heck?

I think because it made me less fun to be around. I'd express my worry about something they'd think trivial, like transportation home if it was way late; or I'd explain I didn't want to change bowling shoes because the guy behind the counter made me nervous; or I'd keep my bowl of chili even though it wasn't very good rather than send it back and offend the cook. Other little things like that. I guess over the weeks as I relaxed and let more insecurities show, it added up to me not being much fun.

In the end, they found a new friend, someone more like them: fearless and carefree. I guess I should have kept my walls up and not admitted my fears.
