My problem is fandom because it looks to me like they only took the bait and didn't think farther.

IRL I'm on the side of LGBT rights.
But I don't think campy performances do anything to help the cause since they only reinforce stereotypes.
I do think Dana International was more likely to change a few minds, because she looked less like a pathetic attempt for attention.

That's the same argument homophobes use. You've never heard anyone say "well, there's a difference between a gay perosn and a fag, so calling someone a fag and persecuting them for how they look and act is ok and totally not homophobic"?

Anytime someone claims that there's a right and a wrong way to be [insert identity here], the person making that claim is part of the problem.

(Obvious exception is if the "wrong way" involves hurting other people, e.g. Bombing abortion clinics is most definitely the wrong way to be pro-life.)
