I wasn't trying to insinuate that everyone does that, to be clear. Just that that's why it's apparently a Big Deal.

So you've seen drama that I missed. Hm, maybe it's because I'm not on Tumblr all that much.

I'm not on tumblr much either. I think it's a poor platform for fandom, which is why I don't use it, but it doesn't hurt that I avoid much of the drama that way. (I mean it's fun to read the drama when it has nothing to do with you, but I don't like being in drama in most cases.)

(Anonymous) 2014-05-20 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)That said, I've been a terrible asshole in fandom in the past. I think the fact that I've mellowed out, found better places to be, become more chill is (in part due to simple growing up), but is also a testament to THE POWER OF MEDS.
I'm not shy about my condition online. I pretty much like to "warn" people, since I tend to like keeping my distance / am wary of friendship, anyway.

I totally agree about meds. They can be an excellent option; they really helped me.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-18 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)In my case, it comes out because people are demanding "OMG UPDATES".
They just can't fathom that maybe someone has a chronic condition that means they can't post/fandom socialize every day, until it's pointed out.
Am I using it as an excuse? Yes. Is it a valid one? Can't really post when I'm unconscious so.. I think so.

It's better to say "for personal reasons" for me, however I'm not very open... Authors who say they have health problems usually recieve well wishes from readers who read author notes at all. Some just say they don't fill like writting... I hope they don't get hate mail.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-18 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)Ah! Unfortunately, I tend to hang around in fandoms where I'm the middle aged lady surrounded by teenagers. I've tried "personal reasons" before, but then I've gotten "well, what ARE they?". You know, obnoxious if well-meaning kid stuff.
And you'd be surprised about the hate mail if someone "doesn't feel like writing". Lazy is the kindest word I've seen other authors get for that.
I really need to find more mature fandoms. :P
