There is no fic except for my long and detailed head canon. That I change bits of every day.

I want your headcanon.

I tried to ship him in my head with the hot asshole congressman, with the not-that-hot sobriety partner (it would have been AWESOME had the guy been good looking and more in the show), with any human he makes those eyes at (Doug included, but I just... couldn't). NOTHING WORKS AND I'M SAD.

Now that I think about it there's one fic called 'president's son' and another with a similar title where I think they meant to do a mash up of TWS, PA and Kings and it has Steve in it.

Fortunately I saved it from when I talked about it last (with additions).

First off, in this universe superheroes are not a thing. You can skip ahead to the bolded XXXXXXX section which focuses more on TJ/Steve specifically.

Steve is just a normal soldier who had a few health problems as a kid but eventually grew out of them. He was a captain in the military (I figure he has done 3-4 tours) and is now retired (honorably discharged).

Other MCU characters are there (some more fleshed out in my headcanon that others.

Sam is also ex-military and is working as a therapist (Masters in Psychology). He and Natasha are in a relationship. I don’t know for sure what I want Natasha to be, but I like her being a ballerina or gymnast. They live on the same street as Steve.

Steve saved a bunch of money while he served so he doesn’t have to work so hard now. He bought himself a little house (2 bedroom) in Washington DC (or outside of DC proper, I have not done enough research on this part). He has two dogs. A Belgian malinois named King and an Australian Shepherd named Bucky (also a therapy dog). He owns a bakery and gets pretty good business (he makes beautifully decorated cakes and cupcakes). He also volunteers at a local youth organization teaching art to the kids.

And onto the good stuff.

XXXXXXX

So they meet two months after TJ’s OD. TJ has been clean since that time but it has been very hard. He still occasionally picks up guys for one night stands (or maybe just a quickie in the bathroom). His family thinks it is just a matter of time before he relapses (especially because he has not changed many of his other bad habits).

Steve catches TJ at the park attempting to work out by running. But he isn’t in the best of health and isn’t doing too great (trying to sprint the entire time, breathing wrong, no water). Steve is there with his dogs and decides to take pity on this poor (cute) soul. He gives him some tips, teaches him some warmup/streches, and offers him a bottle of water.

TJ plays with his dogs a bit and then propositions Steve for sex. Steve is all like, “How about we go to lunch.” They do and lunch turns into more time at the park turns into dinner. TJ walks with Steve to his house and is flabbergasted (and secretly pleased) when Steve just gives him a kiss and says goodnight.

It takes a month of dates (TJ never stays the night, even when having dinner at Steve’s) before TJ is all, “You do know how I am??” Of course Steve does but he doesn’t care about his reputation. It takes another week before TJ tells Steve about him trying to stay clean and sober. That night, Steve gets rid of all the alcohol in his house and stops drinking in TJ’s presence.

TJ gets to know Steve’s friends (when TJ is going to be at a gathering, there is no alcohol) and he loves being with people who don’t just like him because of his rep/family. He also starts going to therapy sessions with a colleague of Sam’s.

Five months after they get together, TJ meets Steve’s parents who adore him. His mother in particular is always trying to feed him up. They are together for 8 months before Steve meets TJ’s family. I have one particular scenario as to why they meet. But it is even more stupidly self indulgent (it is involves sexual abuse of TJ when he was younger by one of his father’s political friends). I really like hurt/comfort so…yeah. I can go into more detail about how he meets TJ’s parents if you want. :D

NOTES:
-Steve, his friends, and parents call TJ, Thomas. TJ prefers to be called that because to his family he is Tommy or TJ. And to the media he is TJ. He likes how being called Thomas differentiates him from how his family and the media view/act around him.
-Steve taught TJ to bake some. TJ loves the smell of Steve when he comes home from the bakery.
-It was three months of dating and sleeping (just sleeping) together before they have sex.
-Steve’s dogs love TJ.
-It took a while for TJ to play the piano in front of Steve. That was also the first night they have sex.
-There are several reasons TJ does not want Steve to meet his family. The first is that he doesn’t want to make Steve deal with all the publicity. The second is that TJ does not want his family to use Steve as a political tool (like how his mother does with Doug and Anne). The third is that TJ wants something just for himself (like playing the piano used to be).

Oh my god, this is the thing I never knew I wanted and now I want more than anything. D: Do you write? Because if you do, then you should totally write it, and if you don't you could probably find heaps of writers who would be on board with the idea (I wish I could write...)

I can so picture Steve and TJ together as an adorable couple, because Steve is all well put together and a good guy, while TJ has been misdirected all his life by the way his sensibility and insecurities (that are what make him such a very good person) fire up in the environment he lived in, and he how basically thinks of himself as a shitty person. And it's so sad, because in PA you can just see how desperate he is to find himself again and how he just KNOWS he can never find himself again. Just thinking about that show makes me sad, I swear.

"They are together for 8 months before Steve meets TJ’s family. I have one particular scenario as to why they meet. But it is even more stupidly self indulgent (it is involves sexual abuse of TJ when he was younger by one of his father’s political friends)"
Right now I'm thinking for some reason of the vice-president asshole guy... but wow, just picture TJ in the White House as a boy and the h/c scenarios just pop up all on their own. I'm interested btw, but also I have to go to bed in like 5 minutes so I won't be able to reply now. :D (My pm is always open btw).

"TJ plays with his dogs a bit and then propositions Steve for sex. "
LOL, is it wrong that I can picture Sebastian Stan perfectly in this scenario? With that face I bet that's what he does on a regular basis. :P

A bit unrelated, but omg, when you mention the use of his name I remembered the scene when Sigourney finds him in the car and calls him Tommy with that breaking voice and there's this moment when she's hugging him to her chest and saying, 'what are you doing' and I think that scene broke my heart for good. I can't believe how good they are together in that show... and how good SS is also with grandma (that fantastic actress I can't recall the name of) who always calls him 'the little shit'. :)

I'm so in love with this show you have no idea. <3

I wish I could write fics. I'd be all over this because I LOVE it so much.

And for the sexual abuse scenario, I headcanon that is was a senator/representative that helped his father campaign (or was somehow close to the family for long periods of time). And while I don't consider it to be the vice president, in my headcanon the vice-president finds out about it before anyone else does. BUT all he gets is a rumor about how someone found some pictures/video of TJ with the senator.

So he thinks that TJ slept with another married man and he confronts TJ (with at least his mother/brother around) about it. TJ is obviously devastated and ashamed (both from the accusations and the realization that people are now going to find out about what happened). He leaves in a panic and heads straight for Steve's house. I have a few diff scenarios I cycle through. Sometimes Steve is home, sometimes he isn't. Sometimes TJ goes and buys some drugs (with the intention of killing himself) that he does not end up taking (TJ is stronger than he thinks).

But once he opens up to Steve about what happened (and of course there are some self-esteem issues regarding that), Steve gets righteously mad about how the vice-president treated TJ and how his family (did not stick up for him more). And then there is the whole thing about how they meet. But that is even longer. So long.

And don't worry about answering this right now! I can totally wait until tomorrow to talk about it (give me something to do on my break at work).

That's some elaborate story you've got there, awesome! I never go this far with my headcanons, probably because I'm shit at writing them down and therefore I don't even take time to make them up all realistic and stuff.
BUT all he gets is a rumor about how someone found some pictures/video of TJ with the senator.
Now that's harsh, and would require even more h/c later on, which, yes.

Since my brain is so devious when it comes to SebStan and his terribly puppy-ish sexy characters (really, SebStan in a nutshell IMO), I also can sorta imagine how someone in the White House or in their staff got hands on something he did and blackmailed him into sex. And now, inserting this into your headcanon, this happens (in my head) when TJ was finally starting to get things right with Steve and his new life, and this thing from the past resurfaces to fuck him up once again.

But thankfully now TJ has Steve to stick with him when/if everything goes to hell.

Poor TJ, but I really do want things to get better for him in the end, I swear. He was my favorite, I identify with him in a LOT of aspects of his life (down to the angsty piano playing and the non-affective father figure among other things) and that makes me want for things to get right for him too. <3

I have a verrrryyyy boring job. So much of my time is spent listening to music and daydreaming.

And OMG, I didn't even think of blackmailing. Yesssssssss. TJ would not want to be a bother for his family/Steve and would totally try to handle the blackmailer himself. I have a new scenario to daydream about now.

And in my headcanons everything always works out. Because I can't do downer endings to stuff. :[

Re: Pairings you think are sexy

[personal profile] neonlovechicken 2014-05-19 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah-hem, I want your job! Lately I can't really do anything that isn't work when I'm, well, at work. :D I headcanon at night... but it's not very, um, elaborate headcanon.

And OMG, I didn't even think of blackmailing. Yesssssssss.
AH. Blackmail scenario is my favorite, hihihi. Of course here's blackmail, it's the White House >>> there are politicians! Politicians >>> corruption-prone, insidious evil. And TJ is the poor pretty boy who just came out, and he's very pretty and doing drugs and therefore PERFECT blackmail material. So I give it a few years in my brain, so that he's not underage ('cause my brain can't do underage) and then BAM. I'm evil.

Me neither... sometimes I just enjoy some dark fic, but they have usually not enough build up to get too involved so that I don't have to grieve for a hour after I've read it, LOL. If it's dark!fic it must be short and not too emotional. In fact I read one with Rumlow/Bucky that was, well, horrible. It was pretty well written, but well, it was completely hopeless. (I was in a mood so I liked it, but also because it was set in a time before this movie, and we KNOW later TWS escapes, so the hurt was minimized by knowing this.)

Re: Pairings you think are sexy

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2014-05-19 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
See, I can't get into dark!fic unless it is short. I just can't invest a lot of time in a fic I know will end depressingly. But a sad oneshot (I probably read that same Bucky /Rumlow fic) is good when I am in a mood. Hell, I have even read a couple Major Character Deaths because they were short.

I don't think I have read a fic in any of my fandoms that have blackmail as a plot point. This is terrible. :C I am actually surprised that asshole vice president didn't try to use TJ's affair or suicide attempt to gain something.

Also, Political Animals talk. Did you think TJ OD'ing was a suicide attempt or not? I totally think it was but he lied about it so that he would not hurt his family. I can't imagine that someone with his history of drug use doesn't know his limits. And he went WAY over his limits (I think he took most of those drugs he bought himself?). Maybe it was a subconscious or spur of the moment decision though.

Re: Pairings you think are sexy

[personal profile] neonlovechicken 2014-05-19 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I also like them short. The one I read thought, Clockwise (or something similar), was pretty 'interesting' because Rumlow characterization made some kind of sense... he was an asshole clearly, but there was something under the surface we can't identify because of the unreliable narrator being Bucky. And that was pretty cool IMO. Then, I will admit it has some pretty hot settings, even if it had some aspects that made me cringe a bit. But all in all it was well written! Which is rare when it comes to non-con... in fact I never read non-con, and quality is one of the main reasons why I stopped reading it (also because I stopped being an emo teenager :P). I think non-con needs to be EXTREMELY well written if you want to make it work without it being completely OOC or completely cringe-worthy... it's not an easy topic.

Blackmail is kind of a thing I have... and with TJ and politic settings, well, it writes itself, LOL. What with people constantly spying on him apparently, because that's the only reason why they could catch him with the congressman I think.

Tbh I thought he was trying to kill himself, and the fact that they made the parallel with the early try made it more apparent... I think he had reached the end of the rope and just did what he felt he needed to do. And his little face when Elaine tells him he's in the hospital... you can see all of it crashing on him and he just looks heartbreaking in there. Seriously, I shed a tear at that. I think she didn't want to hurt his mom by lying like that. Because gosh, you can totally see HOW MUCH he loves her from the way he goes, 'mum' at her upon waking. HIS LITTLE FACE, THE END.

PS: but seriously, it's still surprising to me how so few people seem to enjoy PA? It had a soap-opera-ish look to it sometimes that also threw ME off at first, but once you start on it I think it's evident how great the writing and the acting are!

I am flabbergasted by the fact Tumblr did not latch onto it. It had everything tumblr loves! A well rounded woman in a high political position. Another female lead who is a top notch reporter and also well rounded. Pretty sure it passes the Bechdel test. Two more major characters are also women (one is an older woman and one a POC)! The two sons are both good looking. One is gay, has the face of a kicked puppy, is basically a woobie, AND makes out with guys all the time. That is literally everything tumblr loves.

Re: Pairings you think are sexy

[personal profile] neonlovechicken 2014-05-19 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah! I mean, there's also the ust between the two brothers, if someone is inclined, LOL. There's everything!

And also, there's the enormous big dilemma of the modern woman: career and/or family, which FOR ONCE is handled fantastically. No extremes, no anvils, no bullshit, and that's radical writing to me. And we do get flawed AND fantastically ingenuous and strong (the real kind) women of EVERY flavor.

I even like all the surrounding men tbh, including the asshole dad, because he's cool.

AND, Sebastian Stan is making out with boys, they are sniffing coke from his chest, he cries almost every episode and he's fucking miserable all the way through. And I just love him with EVERY CHARACTER, damn him. I'm shipping him with the piano too, I'm so desperate.

TJ/Piano OTP. I wish there was even a big enough fandom to qualify for the Small Fandoms Big Bang. ;_; I was also hoping that the new popularity of Sebastian Stan would make more people watch (and write fic for) Political Animals.
