That's the other part that also pissed me off; that apparently nothing in the universe matters other than the TWU WUV of the OTP. Sometimes it's handwaved with the wife being secretly evil or really in love with someone else, which makes it all nice and convenient for the pairing to get off scott-free.

It gets even worse considering the most common pairing I see it in, Jean/Marco from Attack on Titan. Marco was shown to be a very kind and empathetic person who was also a good judge of character. The idea that someone like that could be so utterly self-centered and selfish just pushes it all into OOC too.
