This woman in my office talked nonstop--loudly--about things that weren't related to work, plus she played her radio all the time. My job required me to place orders on the phone, and the constant racket made it really hard to hear the suppliers' reps on the other end. I talked to the office manager, who told me that it was my job to adapt to the other people in the office, and the person who had my job before never had a problem with it.

Better yet: my second day, the Big Boss carpeted me and told me that a visitor had complained to him about the constant, non-work-related chitchat and loud music in our office. He gave me a lecture about how unprofessional such behavior was--because he assumed that if there was a complaint, it must be the fault of the newest person in the office.

Actually, everything about the office was toxic--and not just to me. Just before I quit, I came across a sheaf of old time sheets and discovered that for the past two years, nobody had held my job for longer than four months.
