Re: Controversial opinions: Animal edition

We should just let pandas die. I mean, they only eat one type of food, they only mate under VERY specific conditions, and they are mostly defenseless. Money trying to save pandas could go towards saving other animals that have a better change of survival.

It's so sad the cute animals get priority.

They eat more than one type of food when they can and they're still bears and able to defend themselves even if they're cuddly looking.

There is a huge imbalance in the amount of conservation work different species get. 'Cute' mammals like pandas get far, far more than amphibians, insects and other less charismatic creatures, even if the latter are much more important to their native ecosystems. It's just easier to make the public donate towards saving fluffy baby pandas, rather than icky slimy frogs :|

I recently heard a claim like that, and while it appalled me, it's tough to deny that there's a great point. it's not that pandas don't deserve to live - but with their habitats largely destroyed, and their extremely picky diets, they just can't alter conditions very well. They don't like fucking, they don't like eating anything but bamboo, and they don't like doing ANYTHING ELSE all day except eat. Did I mention that bamboo is not even GOOD for them? Their chunky appearance is basically a deformity from evolution due to lack of nutrients.

Conservation for pandas is sooo expensive, and the payoff isn't that great.

That said, I am pro panda conservation. But we need to prioritize other animals.

Like tigers. I fragging hate the parts of Chinese culture that wants to butcher tigers for medicinal reasons that just don't work.

I'd say tigers DO get a whole lot more attention than other endangered animals. But I wouldn't be mad if panda funding went to tiger funding, because the number of tigers is still actively plummeting, they might be gone soon, and I fucking love tigers more than pandas so... lol
