Birds are literally the worst kind of animal.

I'd even go so far as to say that the people who own a ton of birds are usually nucking futs.

I have a friend who's pretty seriously afraid of birds.

They're the worst kind of pet, definitely. The more intelligent types need huge amounts of attention and enrichment, they have natural behaviours like defending their 'nest site' which can be very disruptive, they have specialist diet requirements which are seldom met, they try to hide health problems until they're on death's door, they can die from myopathy if you hold them for too long... I would never want to own a bird.

Parrots also often outlive their owners too.

So finding someone who can provide for them well after that can be haaaaard.

Parrots actually get depressed if their owner dies.
