The good news/bad news about CA:TWS

[personal profile] kallanda_lee 2014-05-20 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
The good news: apparently it has inspired me to start writing fic again, and enjoying it, which I haven't in almost 2 years. I've written some original work/non-ficion stuff in real life during that time, but I moved away from fic. And now I'm back into being passionate about it and having a ton of fun.

The bad news is I haven't been so irrationally obsessed with characters since I-don't-know when, and I have no idea how to channel that obsession in adult life without coming across as a total lunatic (even or especially in front of my bf).

So, this post contains like 3 threads about CA:TWS already and it's super late here and I need to go to bed. I'm upset.

Anyway, I'm here mostly to show off my new icon, but I'll try to answer this v. serious question:

The bad news:
- apparently I was not over actor crushes. Go me!
- oh wait, so SebStan has starred in these other things? Let's watch all of them! Oh wait, Political Animals stars SWeaver and is actually awesome? Let's be obsessed about it too! Is there fic for it? No? FFFFFF-
- next Cap movie is going to be in 2016? Either I'll be dead, comsumed by delayed lust for TWS, or I'll be unaware of it when it comes out because I'm dead or possibly have FINALLY grown up (no way).

The good news:
THERE ARE NO GOOD NEWS, MY LIFE IS RUINED D:

My Bucky crush is also out of hand. More a character crush than the actor, but damn that man in gorgeous.

My life is ruined but I'm enjoying it on so many levels. Something's wrong with me.

WHAT 2016? *dies*

I crush on his face, therefore I crush on anything good he was in. Thankfully he hasn't that big a filmography or I wouldn't have survived. But I have to agree, Bucky is it for me. I would never have looked at him twice if I had not seen HOW GOOD he is in TWS.

My life is ruined but I'm enjoying it on so many levels. Something's wrong with me.
I suppose it's like eating a whole jar of Nutella.

I think it's some weird form of self-inflicted mental masochism.

Hey, if you can write fic and enjoy it I think that's a beautiful thing, obsession or not. And if other people are getting something out of it too, again, that's great!

...But I don't know how to handle it either because Winter Soldier is pretty much the only thing I talk about here on f!s anymore, lmao, and I've already spent what I feel is a 'normal' amount of time talking about it with everyone I know, so I don't feel comfortable bringing it up again and again. Though I sometimes do and go, "Shit, act like you're interested in other things!"

Since Winter Soldier was released the majority of my free time has been spent on Cap fanfic, fanvids, or the tag on tumblr. It's a sad state of affairs.

How do you get rid of this obsession?! I have no idea. Someone help.

I've noticed it in threads here, and it makes me a little excited, though I suppose it must be really annoying to non-fans.

I feel like the non Cap or Bucky fans probably hate a lot of us now because we just refuse to shut up about it. Can't help it though.

This is our burden to bear.

I know. Seeing all the Cap threads makes me happy, though. I'm just glad I'm not alone in my obsession.

They make me happy too, because this is the only place I feel 100% comfortable yapping about it 24/7 and I need to talk about Cap or I will spontaneously combust (someone out there is going, "YES") because of too many feels.

It's a hard life, being a Marvel fan.

Channel your obsession by reading Captain America comics until you can recognize and place EVERY SINGLE PANEL in this vid: http://trelkez.dreamwidth.org/557101.html

Including the 1940s drag ones. I can do it; come join me in the depths of my madness.

I love that vid so damn much. It's incredibly well made and even having read only a few of the comics, it hit hard.

I would like to do this one day!

However, in the meantime I cannot leave my beloved fic.

Good luck and godspeed! May your Cap journey be ever fruitful.

I should be packing my apartment. Instead I'm reading more Steve/Bucky porn. I had a dream last night that I was Bucky and I ended up in a threesome with Steve and Thor. I need help. My obsession is getting out of hand. And yet I don't want help. I want to bury myself in the Steve/Bucky love.

Well, I now know what the best dream ever is. I can never hope to achieve anything better than that. It's everything I've ever wanted but sadly, I rarely have dreams I want.

I'm a semi-lucid dreamer and I also tend to remember my dreams. I have a certain amount of control over my dreams. I think it comes from being a pretty active daydreamer in my everyday life. The only downside is that I'm usually aware I'm dreaming so I don't get fully immersed in it.

I feel like being able to control your dreams (to a certain extent) might even be worth not getting quite as immersed in them. That could lead to some interesting scenarios. (And lots of fun nights!)

One is never a true fan until they've embarrassed themselves in some way in front of friends/bfs/strangers/celebrities by sqeeing loudly over something fandom related.

Seriously though, that is great that you are having fun writing fanfic again. :) That happened to me about a year ago when I started getting back into anime.

Not about CAP, but the embarrassment: I squeed joyously over a POTC 12' doll/figure of Jack Sparrow I received for my birthday a few years ago. The response to the laptop I had received moments before was no where near as joyous.

I think everyone saw where my priorities were.

Come join us in the obsession that is TWS.

I'm not surprised at the levels I've sunk to over this film because I got catapulted into full-blown obsession after Avengers two years ago, I'm getting used to Marvel managing to cause it in me. I just have to figure out how to use this power for good!

I'm just glad I have people on this comm to talk to about it otherwise I would implode from pent-up fannish frustration. I mean I can talk to my dad and bf about the characters but I can't quite go into the depths of super-invested that I do here.

Nah, don't have anyone to talk to about this in real life. My parents had their share when I was younger, and I won't put the poor souls through it anymore. My bf...I talk to him about some fannish stuff (we have awesome Game of Thrones meta discussions) - but, I still think it's weird talking with your partner about crushing on another guy, even if he's fictional. Like, you can mention it, but going on and on about it seems a bit disrespectful.

My dad is almost the same, I don't think he gets into the whole shipping aspect(but I don't know for certain...) but he can waffle about characters with me for hours once we get going. My mum on the other hand I try to spare, she likes the Marvel films but not quite to the same degree that I do.

I don't mean to telegraph that 'hey I may be a tad attracted to this character' but my bf always figures it out, he's never mad at me for it though, if anything he finds it amusing and likes to tease me about it.

I get what you mean though, it's nice to have somewhere you can indulge in conversation about it without feeling that maybe you're going overboard(although sometimes I think I go overboard here too).

Oh, it's not that it's some big secret. I think he figures it out, too. And we both know we totally do consume erotica separately of each other.

It's just...he's not really like me. I'm just more adventurous and cavalier about sex and crushes and kinks in general. He's like this genuinely nice person, and as far as I can tell petty vanilla. I think it genuinely would hurt him on some level if I'd be fawning over some super-attractive celebrity. And I don't want to make him feel like he needs to compete with that - cause's let's face it, no-one can compete with a fantasy.
